  • Variations in title: title, Mrs. Douse, Chieftainess Of Kitwancool, in place as early as 1961 and created by Provincial Archives of BC. See Newcombe Collection catalogue, 1962. Note Newcombe inventory says the museum has a photograph (Royal BC Museum Indigenous Collections, PN03929) of Mrs. Douse dated 1910 which was used to confirm identity.
  • Statements of responsibility: This work is in Emily Carr's hand and was in her studio at the time of her death, inventoried by the executors and stamped with the ink estate stamp.
  • Source of title proper: revised in consultation with Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs, 2020, for the exhibition Everyday Emily Carr.
