A photograph of one of the completed Gems of British Columbia works by Hannah Maynard, part of a series of photocollages created in the 1880s and 1890s. It is a gelatin dry glass plate negative (6.5x8.5 inches). This negative does not appear to have been manipulated. The image design includes a fountain in the centre, babies on painted clouds surrounding the central image, text and a wreath. Portraits of children are included inside the letters of text in the image. The following text is located at the top end of the composition: 1890. The following text is located at the bottom end of the composition: Sprays from the Gem Fountain. It is attributed to being the Gem of British Columbia work for 1890.

Physical condition

The negative is missing a section at the corner of the glass plate. There appears to be no loss of the visual information on the plate in that region.
