This series contains the records of the office of the Government Agent, Greenwood and Grand Forks. This series consists of records created by these agencies and reflects the diverse functions and responsibilities of officials in their capacity as Gold Commissioner, Mining Recorder, Sub-Agent, Deputy Sheriff, Chief Constable, Registrar of the County Court, Stipendiary Magistrate, District Registrar of the Supreme Court, Weather Observer (Dominion Meteorological Service), and Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Included are general correspondence files and letterbooks, applications for Certificates of Improvement, applications for crown grants of mining leases and mineral claims, records of free miners' certificates, declarations of mineral claims, certificates of work relating to mineral claims, circular letters from the Dept. of Mines to Gold Commissioner, records of mining locations, registers of mining claim conveyances, register of applications for water licences, records of trading licences and revenue tax collections, monthly reports of police constables, circulars, bulletins, and orders to the Government Agent, County Court findings related to the Kettle River Mining Division, bills of sale and chattel mortgages, by-laws of the cities of Greenwood, Columbia, Phoenix, and Grand Forks, stock ledgers, lists of summons and injunctions, registered shareholders of Bertha Consolidated Gold Mining Company, and journal and cash books of the Grand Forks Hotel.

The series includes probate files from Greenwood Supreme Court and County Court from 1897 to 1949. There is a file list for individual probate files covering 1927-1949. Various filing methods were used by the creator from 1897-1926. These earlier files were grouped together in Shannon files by the creator. Some files are arranged alphabetically and the rest by file number. This order has been maintained. Earlier files are divided into groups of probate files, intestate probate files, and probate files with will annexed. Some files may contain Supreme Court and County Court files mixed together.

The series also includes grants of letters probate and grants of letters of administration from 1899-1949 from the Supreme Court and County Court, including letters for intestate files and letters of administration from the Official Administrator. Some letters are labelled with file numbers that correspond to a probate file.

These forms show occupation and place of residence and were sworn before various officials: mining recorder, police magistrate, postmaster, notary public, alderman, stipendiary magistrate, MLA, etc. There is supporting documentation, notes, some correspondence and requests to be removed from the voter's list.
