Vancouver area road construction, 1920s [252 feet]: "Consists of many scenes of bulldozers, graders, trucks, shovels and construction workers building a road from scratch, possibly near UBC, according to Mr. Mackenzie's cousin. Later in the film a group of men and equipment are paving a street in Vancouver, smoothing asphalt, steam rolling it, building sidewalks, etc. In this sequence a CN freight train grinds by as the men lay concrete forms along a short stretch of the tracks, a Dunbar streetcar comes up the hill barely missing a man sprinting across the road with two bottles of milk, and two other streetcars pass by while construction work is in progress. "Showing the extensive use to which Caterpillar tractors and graders can be put in preparing an area for logging by putting in roads and fire traits. The item consists of a film reel containing edited footage. This footage was probably shot during a helicopter tour of the area with Ray Williston, Minister of Lands, Forests and Water Resources, in the summer of 1972. It includes: BC Rail construction with bulldozer on the Little Klappan River; footage of Stikine Canyon and helicopter flying in canyon; Mount Edziza; cross on Edziza marking site where two people were killed in an avalanche in the early 1950s, and implements left by the search party; a volcanic cone; Stikine River above the canyon (from the road) and a pan of Tatogga Lake.

The item is a training film from 1980. Uses live-action and animated sequences to demonstrate hand signals used to direct crane boom, line, combination and travel operations. Location footage shows railway cranes at work in a rail yard and hoisting a derailed locomotive.

[Pacific Great Eastern Railway inaugural run, August 1956]
Special event coverage. Chronicles the August 28-30, 1956, inauguration of through-service on the Pacific Great Eastern Railway between North Vancouver and Prince George. Premier W.A.C. Bennett and other dignitaries ride the three inaugural trains, which are eagerly greeted by the residents of towns along the route. A rockslide at Mile 18 on Howe Sound delays the journey until a bulldozer clears the tracks. At Williams Lake station, a mock frontier lynching is staged for the entertainment of the premier and his party. Following footage of the arrival in Prince George, the film also shows progress on northward expansion of the PGE line (including bridge and grade construction), and ends with shots of oil rigs in the Peace River Region.
