History
The Heddle family consists of Robert Heddle (1873 or 1874-1940), his wife Agnes Heddle (nee Crookshanks or Cruikshanks), their daughter Thelma Winnifred Moon (nee Heddle), and her husband James Thomas Moon.
Robert Heddle was born in either 1873 or 1874 in Hebrides, Orkney Islands, Scotland. By 1897, he was settled in Rossland and had partnered with Elmer Edward Stone in a nickel plate claim. The business relationship dissolved in 1897.
Heddle married his wife, Agnes Arnot Crookshanks (also spelled Cruikshanks) in 1900 in Nelson. They had a daughter, Doris Madalene Heddle, on 8 July 1900; she died on 24 May 1917 at 16 years old. They had a second daughter, Thelma Winnifred Heddle, on 20 June 1904.
In 1904, Robert Heddle was made manager of mining claims (including Venus-Juno) on behalf of the Venus Gold Mining Company. During this time and up until his death in 1940, Robert Heddle is listed as a pattern maker (primarily for Nelson Iron Works), but was also involved in mine operations and agricultural development, such as fur farming and fish farming.
Agnes died on 30 May 1950 in Nelson.
Thelma was trained and worked as a beautician in Nelson, at many different parlours—including her own. In ca. 1944-1945, Thelma married James Thomas Moon (born 7 January 1895, in Northfleet, England). J.T. Moon worked in a brewery and as a steam engineer. Thelma died in 1963 and J.T. Moon died in 1965.
