Scope and content
The collection consists of records created ca. 1849 to 1970 by the Dept. of Lands and Works and related departments, including pre-Confederation government bodies.
Immediate source of acquisition
The records known as the Herald Street Collection were stored in a government warehouse on Herald Street in Victoria and were transferred to the BC Archives around 1980.
The records as received were in no particular order and were inventoried by Archives staff. Lists were made that identified individual records as inventory I and Inventory II. Some items were removed from the inventory and described with individual GR numbers.
