Scope and content
The series consists of a photograph album, known as the Indian Commission album, but possibly created by or for Dr. I.W. Powell (Superintendent of Indian Affairs for British Columbia) or A.C. Anderson (Commission and Fisheries Inspector) after 1881. It contains 100 photographs from Powell and Anderson's visits to First Nations communities on the British Columbia coast in 1879 and 1881. The photographs were taken by various photographers who accompanied Powell on his trips, including O.C. Hastings and Edward Dossetter. They are of the First Nations villages and people, the ship HMS Rocket and its crew, and landscapes encountered.

Physical condition
Album is in poor shape. The spine has broken and pages have come loose. The pages are acidic board or card and the photographs have been glued in. Many of the prints have been poorly processed and are fading. Archives staff have stamped the pages next to the photographs with a Provincial Archives of British Columbia stamp and have written photograph numbers (HP numbers) in pen.

Arrangement
The photographs have been numbered from 1 to 100, probably by Archives staff. Caption information written in pencil was probably added by Archives staff. Attributions and dates have been assigned using the Dept. of Indian Affairs annual reports from 1879 and 1881.
