British Columbia portion of 1901 census

1901 census: British Columbia Portion - Schedule 1 (Nominal Return of Living Persons); Schedule 2 (Return of Buildings and Lands, Schools and Churches); and Indian Reserves. A database of the 1901 census data is available through ArchiviaNet but can be searched by geographic location only. It is not searchable by family name.

British Columbia portion of 1911 census

1911 census, British Columbia portion, Schedule 1 (Population). Includes information related to residence, marital status, age, place of birth, religion, racial or tribal origin, occupation, education, etc. Note that Alberta District 7 is included on the first reel. The records were originally filmed in 1955 and the paper records then destroyed. The microfilm quality is inconsistent and not all images are decipherable. A database of the 1911 census data is available through Library and Archives Canada (www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1911/Pages/about-census.aspx) and can be searched by keywords, surname, given name(s), age, and/or province.

Census records

Census records (National Archives of Canada, RG 10, volume 10005, 10009-10015). These volumes contain non-official census records of Indians in British Columbia in the following regions: Okanagan Agency, Cowichan Agency, New Westminster Agency, Shuswap and Okanagan Districts, New Westminster, Yale and Coast Districts, Vancouver, Northern Vancouver Island, and Babine Agency. Volumes 10010-10012a also contain comments by the Indian Reserve Commission of 1876-1877 regarding setting up of reserves.
