The item is a video compilation tape with copies of various films related to BC, from the Allan D. Taylor collection.
Films represented include:

  1. Newsreel item of a street scene showing a dirt road in a small town. Cars drive toward the camera, buildings in background.
  2. Swans in Beacon Hill Park, 1913: newsreel item of Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, British Columbia in June 1913. Shots of swans swimming on lake, waterfowl, footbridge in background, willows by the water and overexposed footage of people on the shore, feeding the swans.

Allan D. Taylor film collection

The collection consists of video copies of 36 film items from the Allan D. Taylor collection held by Library and Archives Canada. These selected items (mainly newsreel footage and out-takes) depict British Columbia events, leisure activities, scenery and cityscapes in Victoria and Vancouver, on Vancouver Island, or in the Interior (for example, Kamloops and Lillooet), during the period 1907-1931. Several items filmed during World War One show events related to the war, including the departures of various military units for the conflict. The collection includes at least one item fillmed by Vancouver filmmaker A.D. "Cowboy" Kean, and a few others that are attributed to him.

Hudson's Bay Company Archives microfilm register for reels 1199 to 17M12. The register lists documents filmed from1988 to 1996 in classification number order and gives a description, inclusive dates, number of frames, etc. for each document. For microfilm of earlier registers see MS-2053. Series listed include post 1870 London Office correspondence, post journals, 1905-1949; post correspondence inward and account books, 1870; ships records; Governor's papers and Commissioner's office papers, private records; Land Department deed copy books, 1870-; French government correspondence, 1904-; maps and pre-1870 atlases.

Films represented include:

  1. Granville Street fire, 1919: newsreel footage of a disastrous fire that rips through the downtown business section of the City, creating endless destruction and pouring clouds of dense smoke over the City.
  2. A Jenny on floats, 1920: footage of a Curtiss JN-4 biplane float plane is shown taxiing prior to takeoff.
  3. Victoria Fusiliers leave for overseas, 1916: newsreel footage taken at the CPR wharf in Victoria's Inner Harbour, soldiers board a steamship as a very large crowd looks on.
  4. Visitors arriving in Victoria, 1907: newsreel footage of two CPR ferries moving toward dock laden with American visitors to Victoria.
  5. War comes to Victoria, 1914-1915: newsreel items of anti-German feelings, Yukon regiment training and unloading horses for war.

The item is a video compilation tape with copies of various films related to BC, from the Allan D. Taylor collection.
Films represented include:

  1. Sunset Films, Victoria, B.C., 1919: title card is followed by a painted background with a simulated sunset.
  2. Vancouver Fair 1931: newsreel footage of rodeo events (steer riding, chariot race); Maypole dancing; deep sea diver boat with air pump; passengers boarding "Princess Louise" in Victoria.
  3. Japanese cruisers visit Victoria, 1914: Newsreel footage of small boats seen moving to and from two large warships, presumably anchored off Esquimalt. Civilians on the small boats are visiting the ships.
  4. Canada goes over, 1915: Newsreel footage of hundreds of men of the Canadian Army parading through Victoria from Anscourt Military Camp along Government Street to board the "Princess Mary" which will carry them overseas. Huge crowds gather to see them off.
  5. Duke and Duchess of Connaught visit Vancouver and Kamloops, 1912: Footage, Royal party in front of Vancouver Court House. Visit to school children. Decorated Granville Street. Highland regiment. Party arrives by carriage at Kamloops Lacrosse Field. Vancouver, Duke arrives at reviewing stand by carriage, inspects pipe band.
  6. Beacon Hill birds, 1929: Newsreel footage, shots of swans and birds in a park which has recently been set aside for a bird sanctuary. Includes some scenes shot in the winter, with ice on the ponds.
  7. Canadians march to service, 1914, 1917: Newsreel item of shots from various news sources, and dates, of Canadians at various stages of preparation to going overseas. Various regiments marching, inspections, parading around Victoria Race Track, marching to embarkation points in full marching order.
  8. Chinese funeral parade, Victoria, 1918: Newsreel item, shots of huge delegation of Chinese Canadians preceding hearse which is horse drawn, followed by various dignitaries of Victoria as the Chinese community parades to burial ground.
  9. Empire Day at Brace Bay and Beacon Hill Park, BC, 1912: Newsreel footage of procession to parade grounds. People milling about and several autos moving about as well. Boy Scouts arriving at Beacon Hill Park to celebrate Empire Day. Families in park.
  10. Lillooet races, ca. 1914: newsreel footage of competitions held on the main street of Lillooet to mark Dominion Day, including horse races, and cowboys saddling and riding bucking broncos.
  11. The Malahat Highway, BC, 1911: footage of a tracking shot along graveled Malahat highway.
  12. News around Victoria, B.C., 1918: newsreel items, giant howitzer firing, Empress of Canada arrives, Mrs. Bowser’s party and golf tournament.
  13. The Private Secretary, 1914: Newsreel item, shots of lineup in front of Capitol theatre in Victoria showing "The Private Secretary."
  14. Snow storm hits Victoria, 1916: Scenes of the aftermath of a heavy snowfall on Victoria.
