File 1

The file consists primarily of correspondence requesting and/or granting leases of Indian reserve land for various uses by settlers. Among this correspondence is a map (1863) of the Victoria harbour showing leased land. The file also contains general correspondence, statement of accounts with reserves, and a memo written by Joseph Trutch regarding Government relationships and dealings with Indigenous peoples in British Columbia. Trutch's memo is a response to a letter (not included in file and location unknown) written by William Green of the Aborigine's Protection Society on the condition of Indigenous peoples on Vancouver Island and their poor treatment by the Government.
