Photographs

The series consists of photographs, mostly taken by Elsie Turnbull between 1950 and 1974. There are two scrapbook albums full of prints, ca. 1200 loose prints, ca. 2600 negatives and 1756 slides. The majority of the photographs are black and white but there are some colour prints and negatives and the slides are almost all in colour. Many of the negatives relate to the loose prints or prints in the scrapbooks. Whenever possible, loose prints have been annotated with information about associated negatives and vice versa.

The photographs document the activities and travels of Doug and Elsie Turnbull, in particular their lifelong interest in mines, mining towns and BC history. Most of the photographs are arranged roughly by area and contain images of BC towns, particularly mining towns, and include historic buildings, cemeteries and monuments, mines and industrial equipment, landscapes, roads and bridges and events. Most of the photographs are identified with notes and dates.
