[Heritage homes]

News item. Extended footage of heritage homes, with lots of close-ups to show details of ornamentation. Conservative MLA Scott Wallace says he has seen a list of these homes (at City Hall?,) and the total number (436) being considered is considerably more than the city fathers say it is. A council spokesman, however, says only 77 homes were considered at first, and that number has now been pared down to 55. Out of this number, he says, 50 owners are happy to be selected this way. Oak Bay heritage home owners were not obliged to accept this designation if they chose not to. Even so, says another spokesman, 75 owners are against it (not all in Oak Bay). Housing Minister Sam Bawlf comments on the tax compensation that heritage home owners will get.
