Fort Defiance site investigation photographs

The series consists of photographs documenting the search for and excavation of the site of Fort Defiance, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in 1966 and 1968. Nicholson, as an amateur historian, was involved in this project with Tofino resident Kenneth Gibson and Donald H. Mitchell of the University of Victoria. The series includes several photos of H.R. McMillan during his visit to the site during its excavation in 1968.

The fonds consists of clippings relating to Vancouver Island's west coast, reminiscences and articles about Zeballos, B.C. and rum running, and a print of a CBC film, along with 11 photographic slides, about Fort Defiance.
