The BC Archives has records documenting the conferences up to 2004.

The content of each file varies, but the records are generally comprised of conference programs and brochures, correspondence regarding the planning of conferences and arranging speakers, and lists of attendees. In some cases, files also contain tourism information on the city where the conference took place that year. Material such as annual general meeting minutes and newsletters related to the conferences are also often interfiled here (additional copies can be found in MS-3316 : Membership).

Governance and administration

The series consists of records related to the functions of governance and administration of the BC Museums Association.

The records consist primarily of meeting minutes and reports of the executive council, financial records, correspondence, and records that relate to the constitution and by-laws of the BCMA.

Membership

The series consists of records related to membership services of the BCMA, and primarily include the records of the annual general meetings, the records of the membership committee, membership lists, questionnaires and surveys, and records related to the publication of Round-Up and other bulletins, such as Who’s News.

Because the annual general meetings typically occurred after the annual conference, additional relevant records can be found in MS-3315 : Conferences and seminars.

Partnerships and programs

The series consists of records created through the course of the BCMA’s partnerships and program development activities. Broadly, these activities consist of professional development programs, advocacy and advisory services, technology and communications services, and liaison and partnership programs. The records also include grant applications prepared by the BCMA to support these kinds of activities.

Professional development records consist of resources and training material on a variety of topics relevant to museum and heritage professions, such as conservation, care of collections, copyright, insurance and appraisals, exhibits, and interpretation. Also included are records related to the Youth Community Action Program, a Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology program managed by the BCMA. The records also include those of the professional development committee and training committee within the BCMA.

Advocacy and advisory records consist of reports, surveys, standards for museums, member support, and planning materials, as well as professional development records.

Technology and communications program records document a variety of programs that the BCMA has administered or participated in. These include: the VolNet program, which offered computers, Internet connection, and training to heritage institutions; HERA, a museum collections management application; database support; and the Dogwood Regional Network, a communication network among provincial museums to enable them to better share information.

The BCMA has partnered and worked with a variety of community heritage institutions, provincial governments and organizations, and national government and organizations. Among these are the Canadian Museums Association, BC Heritage Trust, Western Museums, Association, and the Heritage Council of British Columbia.

The records are comprised of meeting minutes, reports, correspondence, grant applications, sample case files, and compiled information on community museums.
