This series contains records relating to the CANOL Project and the Alaskan Highway. The CANOL (Canadian Oil) pipeline project, conceived in response to fears of a Japanese invasion of Alaska, 1942, consisted of the construction of a road and pipeline from the Norman Wells (NWT) oil field to a refinery at Whitehorse which served as a junction for pipelines to Alaska and Alberta to supply refined petroleum products necessary for the defense of Alaska and the Canadian North.
