Archaeology projects in British Columbia, 1972 : miscellaneous sites

The file consists of 21 film reels of unedited footage shot by filmmakers working under an Opportunities For Youth (OFY) grant to document archaeological projects all over British Columbia. These 21 reels record archaeological excavation work during the summer of 1972, in the following areas: F1992:07/010-013: Williams Lake/Riske Creek -- camp scenes, botanical collecting, area scenery, and work at site(s). F1992:07/014-016: Kamloops -- North Kamloops flood scenes, OFY survey team, crew moving camp, OFY camp and activities, excavation site and flooding. More flood scenes, clearing river debris, etc. Labelling and recording artifacts in lab. Kamloops Museum: interview with curator; kids on school tour. F1992:07/017-018: Musqueam -- Salish Park Development, gravehouse, excavation in pit, artifacts, cataloguing, school tour at site, etc. F1992:07/019-022: Libby I -- Travelling to site, area scenery, surveying, digging, camp scenes. F1992:07/023-027: Libby II -- Tipi construction, surveying, areas flooded (by dam construction?), digging and screening, artifacts, travelling by track and canoe, etc. F1992:07/028: Williams Lake/Deep Creek. F1992:07/29-30: Unidentified.

Adventures of a farm girl in Canada in 1925 / Joan Nina Simpson

The file contains "Adventures of a farm girl in Canada in 1925", by Joan Simpson, with a forward by her god-daughter, June Knowles. It consists of four reminiscences about life on a cattle ranch and in a fruit growing area of British Columbia by a young English woman who spent a year or two in British Columbia in the early 1930s. Although both personal and geographical names have been changed, the ranch on which Miss Simpson worked was undoubtedly the Church Ranch at Big Creek in the Chilcotin district.

Account Book

Account book for general supplies such as food, hay, clothing, shoes, tools, tobacco and drinks, paid for mainly by gold dust but also by cash and goods. Two customers identified, Captain Mitchell, Quesnelle Forks, and John Love, Richfield. Although the name Kamloops appears on the microfilm title page, there is no evidence to connect this manuscript with Kamloops.

James Reid : account book

The file consists of an account book kept between 1875 and 1876 by James Reid, a Quesnel merchant. The book is arranged by daily accounts and includes the names of individuals and businesses, their account numbers and amounts charged or paid.

The file consists of an unidentified account book (possibly Quesnelle Quartz Mining Co.) from 1879 to 1890. The book contains accounts of Quesnel area individuals and businesses.

Letter from Theodore Davie, May 24, 1894, replying to a letter from Prentice stating that Davie had threatened to withhold money set aside in the estimates to reimburse the Western Canadian Ranching Company for road building if Prentice ran as an opposition candidate. Davie denies the accusation but expresses surprise that Prentice should ally himself with a group tending towards "Socialism and communism", and points out that the money had been granted because the government thought of Prentice as a deserving friend.

"Memoirs." Recollections of author's boyhood in London, Ontario, studies at Ontario Agricultural College, and medical training at the University of Western Ontario, reminiscences of his career as medical practitioner in Alberta (1906) and Victoria (1907-1940). MS includes detailed account of author's military career - notably his service in South Africa (1899-1900) with Canadian Artillery and the Canadian Scouts; in Victoria (1907-1914) with 88th Fusiliers and Victoria Independent Squadron of Horse; and in Europe (1915-1918) with 2nd Battalion, Canadian Mounted Rifles, and 102nd Battalion (North British Columbians). Additional reminiscences of author's inter-war service with 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish Regiment), and of his postings with 2nd Battalion (Canadian Scottish) [1940-1942] and Canadian Army Medical Corps. [Folders 1-3]. Bapty's first-hand account of battles of Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele, regimental diary of 2nd Battalion, Canadian Scottish (1936-1942), pamphlet on regimental colours of 30th Regiment (BC Horse), correspondence dealing with soldiers' morale, and memoranda (1942) pertaining to British Columbia coastal defence included in collection [microfilm]. Unit also contains accounts of holiday expeditions to Barkerville (1927) and Forbidden Plateau (1936), plus eulogies and newspaper clippings concerning Bapty's career [Folders 4-7]. Cariboo gold rush records

File consists of textual records including licenses to sell liquor, free miners certificates, receipts for goods purchased, telegraph messages, Royal Engineers discharge papers, a will, correspondence, a list of persons entitled to vote in electoral district of Cariboo, and other records created between 1863 and 1885. They are generally related to the Cariboo region, especially Richfield, Barkerville, Quesnel, William Creek, and Yale.

Cornish Co. ledger

The file consists of a ledger account book for the Cornish Co. in Richfield. A name plate for E.L. Kepner is on the inside front cover. The ledger includes various account information for the period 1870 to 1897.

Receipts, bank drafts : W.H. Boyd

The file consists of a cash day book entitled "receipts, bank drafts W.H. Boyd." It contains daily entries from 1894 to 1896 as well as a promissary note from 1897.

Reminiscences of a motor trip

The file contains a copy of reminiscences by Annie Elizabeth Greenfield, of a motor trip made in the summer of 1927 from Vancouver to Hazelton via the Fraser Canyon and Cariboo Highway, and of the return journey made via Kamloops, the Okanagan, and Washington state.
