Item consists of a studio portrait of an unidentified Indigenous man. This photograph can also be found in Dally album 5 (MS-3100.5), where it is captioned "Sheesat Siwash." Sheesat is assumed to refer to Tseshaht First Nation.
The photograph may have been taken in 1866, when Frederick Dally participated in a tour of inspection of Indigenous communities around Vancouver Island on the H.M.S. Scout.

Item consists of one photograph of Barkerville the day after fire destroyed the town on September 16, 1868. Groups of men stand amid rubble, smoke, and tree stumps. An unopened safe from The Bank of British Columbia can be seen at the centre of the image.

A paper label adhered to the front of the plate includes a handwritten caption: "#52 Indian graves Fraser River". The image depicts a forest clearing with a picket fence, three low shelters (platforms?), and poles with flags or banners.
