The fonds consists of industrial, engineering, and public relations films created for or by British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority and its predecessors (the British Columbia Electric Company and the British Columbia Power Commission) from 1945 to about 1984. This material includes 164 unique film items in 16 mm film, each containing one or more printing elements such as prints, sound tracks, negative reels, selected out-takes and unedited footage. In some cases, there are no edited prints, only miscellaneous reels of footage.

Most of the BC Electric and BC Hydro films are the work of Vancouver producer Lew M. Parry. The fonds also includes a number of non-Hydro films produced by Parry, as well as a selection of prints and film material relevant to BC which had been circulated through (or stored at) Hydro's film library.

Columbia River Treaty lectures collection

The collection consists of audio recordings of thirteen talks on the topic "Perspectives on the Columbia River Treaty", presented at Simon Fraser University from January to April 1974, presumably as part of a course. The speakers include federal and provincial politicians, B.C. Hydro officials, treaty advisors and officials, and Canadian and American academics.

This series consists of records of the Ministry of Environment (previously the Dept. of Lands, Forests and Water Resources), Power and Special Projects Division. Records include correspondence, feasibility studies, consultants' reports, engineering studies, application hearings, submissions, progress reports, contract drawings and tender documents regarding hydro-electric projects, water licenses, flood control, petroleum refinery pollution, sewerage treatment plants, fisheries and wildlife, and environmental impact, 1949-1976.

The collection largely contains materials relating to Arrow Lakes Dam, 1949, 1954-1969; the Jordan River redevelopment project, 1968-1972; the Babine Lake development (Fulton River dam), 1967-1970; the Columbia River Mica Dam project, 1954-1970; the Duncan Lake storage development, 1971-1973; the Kootenay canal development, and the Portage Mountain development (Peace River W.A.C. Bennett Dam), 1958-1967. It also includes hearings and submissions regarding the Iona Island sewage treatment plant, 1957-1959; records of Canada - B.C. Consultative Committee on the Okanagan basin agreement, 1970; B.C. Comptroller of Water Rights hearings regarding Nechako River, 1949; various B.C. Research Council reports, 1966-1973; and International Joint Commission (U.S. and Canada) hearings, 1955.

This series contains 28 volumes of proceedings at public hearings under the Water Act Into an application by British Columbia Hydro (BC Hydro) for a water licence to divert, use and store water out of the Columbia River at a point about 3 miles upstream from Revelstoke, B.C., near the lower end of the Little Dalles Canyon.

This series consists of records of the Public Utilities Commission, 1972. Records include proceedings at hearings pursuant to the Public Utilities Act in the matter of the application of British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority, Centennial Natural Gas Pipeline, Georgia Gulf Transmission, Malaspina Gas Pipeline, for the construction and operation of a pipeline or system to serve Powell River and Vancouver Island with natural gas.

Lew M. Parry fonds

The fonds consists of records generated by Lew M. Parry between about 1930 and 1987 in the course of his activities as a film maker based in Vancouver, including records generated by the companies Trans-Canada Films Ltd., Lew Parry Film Productions and Parry Films Ltd. The fonds also includes records generated by Lew Parry through his activities as art director and set designer for the Vancouver Little Theatre Association in Vancouver from about 1933 until about 1947. Also included are a few personal records such as photographs of Parry's home, family and friends. The fonds consists of Parry's films and library footage, comprising industrial films of bridge, power plant and dam construction, and of the mining, logging and fishing industries, as well as documentaries, travelogues, promotional films, newsreels, educational and training films, dramatic short films, docudramas, theatrical trailers and television programs and commercials. The fonds also includes photographs of Parry's activities making promotional films, and making industrial films of the mining industry and of bridge, dam and power plant construction projects. There are also photographs of the filming of the pilot television program North of 53 and of The Littlest Hobo program; of film studios, film sets, and recording studios; photographs of actors (including actors from Paramount Studios) and a few personal photographs of Parry's home, family and friends. In addition the fonds includes a scrapbook containing Vancouver Little Theatre Association programs (1933-1947), correspondence, notes, newspaper clippings, black and white photographs, including some of the Vancouver Diamond Jubilee parade, graphite sketches and colour drawings of set designs, art sketches (including possibly a storyboard for a “screen ad” for Roger's Sugar), invitations and an invoice. The fonds also includes four award certificates (1957, 1986-1987).
