Pilchards (i.e., Pacific sardines) are caught on the open Pacific by the seiner "Tatchu" and the tender "Westisle". In the first sequence, dealing with a prosperous town which becomes a ghost town after a nearby forest fire, Barkerville is the ghost town location.
