During the First World War, the Regiment was not mobilized, but in December 1914 many volunteers from the Regiment joined the newly formed 2nd Regiment, Canadian Mounted Rifles. Trained as cavalry and deployed as infantry, volunteers from the regiment fought in the war as part of the 5th Battalion CEF, 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade of the 3rd Canadian Division. They also recruited for the 2nd and 11th Regiments, Canadian Mounted Rifles CEF. In the background are the stables and encampment at Willows Camp. In this photo, a volunteer attemps to bring two horses to the stables.
