Arts and culture funding case files

The series consists of successful applications for grant and scholarship programs administered by the program area created between 2014-2016 in British Columbia. Grants and scholarships are available to community and professional arts and cultural organizations and individual artists through the British Columbia Arts Council and other ministry arts and culture funding programs. British Columbia Arts Council funding is available under the Arts Council Act (RSBC 1996, c. 19). Successful applications document a core function of the program area and possess considerable historical and informational value in the area of the development of British Columbia's arts sector. This arts funding supports and encourages various cultural and artistic endeavors, including arts festivals, arts training, community and regional arts development, professional performing arts (e.g., dance and theatre), visual arts, literary and publishing arts, and media arts. The Arts and Cultural Development branch review the funding applications and make funding recommendations which, depending on the funding program, may be submitted to the BC Arts Council for approval.

It includes successful grant applications, allocation records, final reports from the recipient of the grant, and other supporting documents. Asbestos litigation records

The series consists of briefing notes, correspondence, notes, settlement agreements, and collections of news articles pertaining to asbestos litigation carried out in British Columbia between 1987 and 1996. The records were maintained by the Deputy Attorney General and provide evidence of activities surrounding litigation in the province. The records also show that lawyers looked to prior litigation that had taken place in the United States, and this is reflected in the records. Many of the legal cases involved suing manufacturers of asbestos products for recovery of the costs related to asbestos abatement in buildings and vessels. The series also consists of correspondence from different ministries is response to a letter requesting responsive records for court cases.

Ashcroft and Nicola tax records

This series consists of land and mineral tax records related to the Nicola, Merritt and Ashcroft area from 1900-1952. The records were likely created by the Government Agents working in those locations, who acted as Tax Assessors and Collectors.. There is also one record of water rights for the Nicola and Yale area and one register of water licence applications. The majority of records relate to the sale of mineral claims or land as a result of the failure to pay taxes.

Records include tax sale deeds of land, various tax sale of land forms, tax sale certificates, redemption receipts, tax sale papers, and some correspondence. There are also related tax related records from the Court of Appeal and Court of Revision. These record the appellant, date, description of property, reason for appeal, evidence heard and decision.

Ashcroft County Court plaint and procedure book and index

Series consists of several volumes of indexes and plaint and procedure books dating from approximately 1890 to 1975. Included in the series is an index for records in GR-1646. The index, which runs from 1890-1921, is divided into sections for first, second, third, and fourth books. It appears that the volume in GR-1646 is indexed as the fourth book. The whereabouts of the remaining "books" are unknown.

Volumes dating from 1936 onward include both the index and the record within the same ledger book. The 1921-1936 index volume includes one page at the back with a list of mechanics’ liens from 25 October 1930.
