The records are dated between 12 August 1861 and 14 March 1864 and were photocopied around 1977.

The fonds consists of records of the Victoria Office of the British Columbia Electric Railway created between 1861 and 1967 and includes financial records, correspondence, photographs, maps and films.

Fonds includes financial records of the Victoria Gas Company (1861-1904), the Victoria Illuminating Company (1887-1890), and the National Electric Tramway and Lighting Company (1889-1944) as well as business records of the Vancouver Island Power Company (1910-1944). It also includes an engineer's report on relay protection of the high tension transmission systems of the British Columbia Electric Railway Company prepared by Westinghouse (1923), various maps and plans and twelve historical films created for the 1958 Centennial.

These volumes contain daily reports showing the prisoner's name, with or without labour, how/where employed and sometimes "remarks". The following Volumes are missing : 1 May 1900 - 16 Sep 1901 and 1 Feb 1903 - 14 Jun 1904. The final volume contains a notes that prisoners were transferred to Saanich Prison Farm on 12 Sep 1914.

This series consists of plaint and procedure books for the County Court held at Lillooet, 1861-1977. Also includes record book from Magistrate's Court at Lillooet, 1893-1902; and proceedings of Small Debts Court, Lillooet, 1893-1902. The plaint and procedure books cover primarily civil cases, as well as naturalization records up to 1953, appeals, mechanic’s liens, woodmen's liens, and some criminal cases. The last two volumes include some probate/estate administration cases.

Douglas collectorate duplicate cash books

The series consists of two duplicate cash book for the Douglas collectorate, created by the Treasury between 1861 and 1866. Volume 1: January 1861 to March 1862. Volume 2: January 1862 to March 1866.

The collectorate was managed by the Stipendiary Magistrate (which also also acted as Government Agent) for the Douglas District. In 1866 the Douglas District was merged into the New Westminster District.

Register of Victoria District School, 1861-1865, and school account book, 1862-1864. The Register shows the names and attendance of students at the school. "Accounts" include supply list of food staples, etc., showing prices and customs duties, along with student fee payments. As well, the volume contains addresses and a "Story of Moses" by schoolmaster W. H. Burr. Also included are newspaper cuttings re: the early history of Victoria schools and an annotated list of pupils attending the Victoria District School, ca. 1862. The list was prepared for the Provincial Archivist, John Forsyth, by Edgar Fawcett in April 1922.

Most of the volumes relate to bills of sale in Victoria but one volume is an index to bills of sale on the mainland.

This series consists of papers from intestate estates which had been left in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court. Estates may have been handled by the Colony of British Columbia or the Province of British Columbia. The series includes a wide variety of private records which belonged to 48 individuals who died intestate. Records include correspondence, diaries, photographs, maps, bills, notebooks, identification, and other personal records.

Vancouver Island Road Tax Commissioner records

This series consists of records created by Road Commissioners from various road districts in the Colony of Vancouver Island, from 1861-1875. This includes the Victoria, Esquimalt, Esquimalt Town, Lake, Saanich, Metchosin, Sooke and Highlands Road Districts.

The records include financial records such as cash books, account books, road tax assessment rolls and ledgers. These track the fines and taxes collected for each district, and the expenses for road construction and maintenance. Some records indicate the individuals who paid for and worked on specific roads in the Victoria area that are still in existence today.

Other records include correspondence and minute books recording the decisions and priorities of the commissioners. These indicate where and how roads were constructed as the colony was growing.

Rock Creek store ledger

This volume was created by WG Cox, Police Magistrate and Gold Commissioner of Rock Creek in 1861. The ledger lists all of the furniture, fixtures, supplies and other items located at the Rock Creek government office and their "fate" - possibly where some items were moved to when the office closed around 1863.

Similkameen Division of Yale Land District land registers

This series consists of Similkameen Division of Yale Land District lot registers for lots 1- 4016. The earliest entries date from 1861 and all volumes were superceded by 1932 (i.e. no further entries were made after 1932). The registers list lots in numerical order and record the alienation of land from the Crown (by purchase, pre-emption, lease, etc.). Information may include the name of the purchaser, dates and numbers of certificates issued (including Crown Grants), dates and amounts of payments, and reference numbers to correspondence files and field books. There is an alphabetical name index in each volume.
