This series consists of copies of telegrams sent by registrar of the Victoria Supreme Court, 1899-1912.

The series consists of three volumes of telegrams to the Superintendent of Police, from 1896-1897, and 1900-1906. They are arranged alphabetically within chronological groupings.

This series contains records relating to Placer Mining Leases Includes applications, licences and lease forms, and correspondence. Many tracings and sketches are contained in the lease and correspondence files. Maps and plans transferred to Map Division.

This series consists of plaint and procedure books for the County Court of Terrace from 1961-1970. The books cover primarily civil matters, including liens. Volume 1 consists of file numbers 1/61-260/64 and includes an index for Terrace Supreme Court for the years 1961-1965 tucked into the cover. Volume 2 consists of file numbers 1/65-140/70.

This series consists of one cause book from the Supreme Court of Terrace from 1961-1967. The book includes file numbers 1/61-1/67, and covers adoption, divorce and other civil matters. There is no index.

Series contains probate/estate files from Terrace Supreme Court.

The series consists of data acquisition and quality control records relating to base mapping (the process of mapping the provincial terrain – that is, land and water features). All base mapping was managed through the Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) program. TRIM provides the base data for the Province of British Columbia, operating under the Land Act. TRIM is a set of three-dimensional digital files that support development and management of land-related information.

The original TRIM program and mapping projects began in 1988 and were completed in 1996. Demand for more information on features such as roads, streams and forest openings led to the development of the TRIM II program. Mapping projects after December 1996 follow a new set of standards and are used to update and maintain the TRIM program.

The files consist of textual output of technical and background information for maps, rather than maps. These digital mapping group records include statistical summaries for map sheets, data checking and editing printouts, inspection check lists involving inspection and quality control checks which were carried out and indicated in the enclosed forms. Files include information on contractors. Dates given in the file list are sometimes approximate.

The creating office (the Surveys and Resource Mapping Branch, operations section) the most recent records was part of the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks. Previous creating ministries included the Ministry of Crown Lands and BC Ministry of Environment and Parks.

This series consists of reports, correspondence and other records related to the Thompson River Basin pre-planning study from 1975-1981. Most records were created or used by the Water Management Branch and Water Investigations Branch.

The records relate to a federal-provincial agreement to conduct a pre-planning study of water in the Thompson River Basin. The study was intended to describe the basin’s water resources, and identify existing and potential water resource problems related to water quality and quantity. The study was to begin looking at solutions to these problems and the value of a longer-term planning study. Records document the creation and implementation of the study which involved multiple ministries from both the provincial and federal governments. The study involved scientific studies and public consultation to gain an understanding of water management issues in the area, and their associated land use and economic activity.

Records include correspondence, draft studies, reports used as reference material, minutes, maps, photographs and newspaper clippings.

Records were selected for permanent retention under one time schedule number 890487.

Registers containing original timber licenses, intermediate timber licenses, timber license transfers (1884-1912); ledgers containing intermediate timber licenses, timber perpetuity licenses (1913-1950) pulp licenses (1922-1950); timber leases (1861-1950); pulp leases (1910-1953); and hemlock leases (1913-1920). Some volumes are indexed.

Series consists of Railway Belt timber berth administration files from the Kamloops Forest District. Timber berths were an area based system of timber tenure established by the Dominion (Federal) Government in 1872.

Under the British Columbia Terms of Union that were passed in 1871, the BC Government agreed to convey to the Dominion Government “public lands along the line of railway throughout its entire length in British Columbia, not to exceed, however, twenty (20) miles on each side of said line.” This land was used to provide aid in the construction of the CPR Railway.

The Dominion Government retained responsibility for the Railway Belt lands until 1930 and managed land use until that time. In 1930, they transferred responsibility for the Railway Belt lands to the Province of BC. BC managed existing land tenures following the transfer including the management of timber berths. These files document the period of time after 1930.

The series is arranged by the timber berth number. The number is sequential and runs from 233 to 645 with major gaps. Files contain correspondence, licence to cut timber forms, plans, logging inspection reports, final harvesting inspection and scale and royalty accounts.

The series consists of Forest Branch records created between 1912 and 1914. The series contains timber cruiser reports by W.J. Kelly on diverse tracts, including holdings of the Lillooet and Cariboo Land Company, Ltd. Reports include numerous photographs and maps.

This series contains inventories of mature and immature timber within the confines of the Cheakamus Reservoir area, Bridge River-Powell River, Bridge River-Rosedale and Cheekyo-Hornem Payne Transmission Line rights-of-way prepared by T and H Engineering and Forestry Ltd., and Forestal Forestry and Engineering International Ltd., for British Columbia Electric Company, submitted to the District Forester, Vancouver.

This series contains an inventory of merchantable and immature timber on Crown Land within the confines of the West Coast Transmission Co. Ltd. gas pipeline right-of-way by C.D. Schultz and Co. for Canadian Bechtel Ltd. submitted to the District Forester, Prince George.

This series contains an inventory of the mature and immature timber on Crown Land within the confines of the Trans-Mountain Oil Pipe Line Company right-of-way prepared by C.D. Schultz and Co. for Canadian Bechtel Ltd. and submitted to the District Forester, Fort George. Internal evidence suggests that there were originally at least nine more folios to this report.

This series consists of Forest Branch timber investigations and inspections files, 1913-1915. Records include correspondence and reports from Nelson, Prince Rupert, Vancouver and Vernon Forest Districts. Includes file on early logging railroads, Vancouver Forest District.

The series consists of timber licence files from the Port Alberni Forest District. The licences provided the licensee with the right to harvest timber from a specific area. The files document the management of timber licences and include records relating to the issuance, administration and monitoring of the licence. The records were created between 1956 and 1981.

The majority of the files consist of licence files arranged by the timber number. Each timber number begins with the letter “T.” The series also contains one general administration file and files of “expired timber licences” that were not renewed and were brought together in large files.

The files consist of forms, reports, correspondence and maps. The files usually contain a copy of the licence, maps of the area that will be logged, ministry approvals, operating and development plans, inspection reports, as well as a wide variety of correspondence with the licensee.

This series contains a timber mark certificate issued in the name of John F. Murray, Refuge Bay, Porcher Island.

The series consist s of timber mark certificates. The certificates were created in accordance with the Timber Mark Act of 1890 (SBC 1890, ch. 47). The act instructed all persons engaged in the business of lumbering, or getting out timber by floating or rafting, shall select a separate and distinct mark and register the marks with the government.

Series consists of certificate numbers 1 to 16,000 created between 1890 and 1934. The certificate forms record the file number, who the certificate was issued to, information about the timber operation, the land district and forest district. The forms also record the gazette number.

This series consists of records related to timber marks on private land. The records were created and used by the Kaslo office of the Nelson Forest District from approximately 1940-1978. Private timber marks are used to transport logs from privately-owned land by certifying ownership of the logs. The records relate to the issuance of timber marks on private lands pursuant to the Forest Act. This includes applications, approvals, certificates, Letters of Marking Authority, inspection reports, correspondence, notices of timber mark cancellation, scaling records, and some licences to cut on private land. The records include many maps of district lots where timber was cut.

The records are arranged by district lot (DL). Note that most files only relate to a smaller portion of a district lot. The file list includes the relevant district lot and the name of the licensee for each file.

Records in this series are covered under ORCS numbers 19280-35 in the Ministry of Forests records schedule (number 881261).

This series documents the Government’s administration of timber licences in the Kamloops Forest District during the period of 1966-1983.

Each file contains correspondence, reports and may also contain maps of the cutting area. The files also contain the TSHL application, cutting permit, timber value appraisals and reappraisals, stumpage rate notices, cutting plan maps, and inspection reports. The files are numbered and arranged by the licence number.

Timber sale harvesting licences were first introduced in 1967 and provided individuals and businesses with a permit to cut a volume of timber. This series documents the Government’s administration of timber licences during the period of 1970-1982.

The series contains records for TSHL’s A00633 and A02810. There are multiple files for each TSHL and each file corresponds to specific cutting permit. Each file contains correspondence, reports and may also contain maps of the cutting area. The files also contain the TSHL application, cutting permit, timber value appraisals and reappraisals, stumpage rate notices, cutting plan maps, and inspection reports.

The records have been classified as 19590-45 in the Forest Operational Classification System (ORCS).

Series consists of timber sale licence files from the Kamloops Forest District. These licences provide a licensee with the right to harvest timber in a specified area.

Each file documents the issuance, administration and cancellation of timber licences as per the Forest Act. The majority of the files in this series date from 1970-1989 although there are also some files that date back to 1942. The records are from the Kamloops Forest region.

The files consist primarily of copies of the licence, applications, maps, status clearance forms, harvesting inspection reports, renewal forms, deletion notices, correspondence and reports. There are also some cash timber licences in this series (boxes 168-172) that contain cash timber licence permits.

The ministry assigned A numbers to the files which have been assigned sequentially. There are many gaps in the numbering since the central ministry office and other forest regions also used the same numbering system and the ministry only transferred cancelled licence files to the archives. There are also some files that have been classified with an “LKS” or “X” number.

The majority of the files contain two parts. These were attached to both sides of the file folder are front to front. One part consists of a copy of the licence and other legal documents whereas the second consists of related correspondence, forms and reports.

This series consists of Forest Branch timber reconnaissance and survey files, 1912-1943. Includes reports, memoranda, correspondence, statistical summary sheets, sketches, plans, maps and photographs of timber inventories of Crown lands, timber leases, government reserves, private holdings and pulp leases.

The series consists of various timber tenures from the Kamloops Forest District of the Department of Forests and its successors. Records date from 1962-1986.

Forest tenures in this series include cutting permits, timber licences, timber sale licences, timber sale harvesting licences, licences to cut, timber berths, tree farm licences and free use permits. The licences provided the licensee with the right to harvest timber from a specific area. These files document the management of timber licences and include records relating to the issuance, administration, planning, cancellation or deletion, extension and monitoring of the tenures. Files may have A numbers, T numbers, X numbers, or other numbers specific to a type of tenure.

The files may contain a copy of the licence, forms, reports, maps of the area that will be logged, ministry approvals, operating plans, annual reports, as well as a wide variety of correspondence with the licensee.

The records were transferred to the archives under several numbers in the Ministry of Forests ORCS schedule (881261). However, most of the records in this series predate the creation of ORCS, and may have file codes from the old Ministry of Forests File Directory, such as 850-16.
