Photograph depicts large crowds of civilians gathered at the CPR station in Victoria's harbour. They have come to send off the 30th Battalion who are departing on a long journey towards Europe. The ship, SS Princess Mary, is preparing for departure toward Vancouver where the soldiers will then transfer to a train. Soldiers have completely packed the ship and some even climb up the ship's rigging. A military pipe band can be seen in the bottom of the frame.
