This series contains election writs, voters' lists, poll books and related correspondence dating from 1856-1866. Poll books give electors' names and indicate the candidates for whom each elector voted. This unit should be used in conjunction with GR-0484 [Voters' Lists, 1865-1866] and GR-1666 [Voters' Lists and Poll Books, 1862-1866].
The fonds consists of correspondence, accounts, receipts, contracts and agreements, pocket notebooks, and notes. Some records relate to the Rail Road House and to activities conducted in partnership with Arthur Churton.
This series consists of cash books used by the Colony of Vancouver Island treasury from 1859-1866. Cash books list receipts and payments in date order and are used to determine total assets at any given time. transactions are divided into receipts (debits) and payments (credits). Information is entered under the following headings: date of receipt or payment, number of voucher; from who received; name of the person or department making or receiving the payment; description of the receipt item or service; amount received or paid; and the waste book page number.
The series is a correspondence record book originally kept by the Surveyor General of the Colony of Vancouver Island, J.D. Pemberton, from 1852 to 1864. The record book was then kept by Acting Surveyor General B.W. Pearse, from 1864 to 1868 both for the Colony of Vancouver Island and the United Colony of
The volume contains copies of correspondence from Hudson's Bay Company House in London to Colonial Surveyor J.D. Pemberton and Governor James Douglas, as well as individual letters from Douglas and other Colonial officials to Pemberton and Pearse bound into the book. There are also lists of reports issued by Pemberton and extracts from minutes of council regarding regulations for the sale of land, letters and papers regarding the Race Rocks lighthouse, and correspondence relating to the Union of the colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia.

This series consists of proclamations collected from various published and unpublished sources issued by the Governor of the Colony of Vancouver Island, 1859-1866.
This series includes records of the Colony of Vancouver Island Police. Volume one is a charge book, 1862-1866; this volume also includes complaints of the Victoria Police Office, July - September 1866, and a census of householders in Victoria by street, 1871. Volume 2 is a daily report book, April 26, 1863-Dec. 23, 1864.

This series consists of a variety of records created or used by the colony of Vancouver Island Legislative Assembly from 1858-1866. Records include draft bills, draft ordinances, draft Acts, draft proclamations, committee reports, committee minutes, correspondence, messages from the Speaker of the House to the Governor and addresses to or from the Legislative Assembly.
Committee records include the Committee on Crown Lands with land use statistics on the number of acres sold, pre-empted and reserved (including Indian Reserves) in each land district.

The series also includes poll books for Saltspring Island and Chemainus District (1863), for Victoria District (1863) and Victoria City (1863-1866). This series consists of a day book of expenditures of road and bridge construction, surveys and transport, 1862-1864; goods received from grocers, Hope, B.C., 1865; correspondence and specifications relating to the construction of the Burrard Inlet road, 1864-1865.
This series contains drafts of bills, ordinances, and regulations from 1860-1865. The series also includes covering correspondence from the Clerk of the Council to the House of Assembly, 1860-1864.

Also addresses from the Legislative Council of British Columbia to Governor Douglas (1864) and Governor Seymour (1865).
Register of Victoria District School, 1861-1865, and school account book, 1862-1864. The Register shows the names and attendance of students at the school. "Accounts" include supply list of food staples, etc., showing prices and customs duties, along with student fee payments. As well, the volume contains addresses and a "Story of Moses" by schoolmaster W. H. Burr. Also included are newspaper cuttings re: the early history of Victoria schools and an annotated list of pupils attending the Victoria District School, ca. 1862. The list was prepared for the Provincial Archivist, John Forsyth, by Edgar Fawcett in April 1922.
