Annotated copy of the Schedule referred to in order-in-council 911/23

Annotated copy of the Schedule referred to in order-in-council 911/23, regarding confirmation of Indian reserves, new reserves, and the reduction and cut-offs of reserves within various British Columbia Indian Agencies. The Schedule amended the work of the Commission on Indian Lands and Indian Affairs in general in British Columbia, 1913-1916, and is commonly known as the Ditchburn-Clark Report. This copy of the Schedule has been "certified correct" by William E. Ditchburn (for the Dominion government) and John William Clark (representing the provincial government) and is dated 10 May 1923. This series consists of a photocopy of the schedule referred to in order-in-council No. 911, approved 26 July 1923 regarding confirmation of reserves, reduction of cut-offs, new reserves as a result of work of [William E.] Ditchburn [and Col. J.W.] Clark, to amend work of the Commission on Indian Lands and Indian Affairs in General in British Columbia, 1913-1916. This document is commonly known as the Ditchburn-Clark Report.

The series consists of miscellaneous correspondence inward and outward on diverse topics. Most of these records pertain to the 1920s and early 1930s. Included are files dealing with the exclusion of Orientals (1921), the preservation of Craigflower schoolhouse and other historic sites, acquisitions (of paintings and photographs) by the Archives department, removal of Indian totem poles, petitions protesting the dismissal of Judge Helen Gregory MacGill (1929), and the Bedaux Sub-Arctic Expedition (1934). Early files include a memorandum on the benefits of establishing a Treasury Board for the provincial government (1872) and a letter of introduction for John Blair, landscape architect (1896).
Also included is a schedule referred to in order-in-council no. 911, confirmation of reserves, reductions of cut-off's and new reserves, Ditchburn-Clark Commission.

This series consists of records of the Ministry of Environment (previously the Dept. of Lands, Forests and Water Resources), Power and Special Projects Division. Bennett Dam), 1958-1967. It also includes hearings and submissions regarding the Iona Island sewage treatment plant, 1957-1959; records of Canada - B.C. Consultative Committee on the Okanagan basin agreement, 1970; B.C. Comptroller of Water Rights hearings regarding Nechako River, 1949; various B.C. This series consists of bills, draft bills, orders of the day, notes on debates, estimates, draft legislation, statutes, subject files and other records of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly, 1868-1872.

The first versions or drafts of a bill or act are known as the Blues version, after the blue paper used for the printing. The final version, printed by the Queen’s Printer, is on white paper. All blues versions will be identified as draft. Final versions will be noted at “Statute”.

Nelson Land Commissioner records

This series consists of records related to land use, management and alienation in the Nelson, Revelstoke and Kootenay land districts. The records date from 1892-1980. Records include certificates of purchase and various land registers.

There are two survey systems used in the land registers: the district lot system and the township section system. Registers may also be arranged by plan number. The registers record the alienation of land from the Crown by purchase, pre-emption, lease, mineral claims, timber use, etc. Information may include the name of the purchaser, dates and numbers of certificates issued (including Crown Grants), dates and amounts of payments, and reference numbers to correspondence files and field books.

The series also includes several paper subject files and correspondence files with settlers discussing the pre-emption, lease and purchase of specific parcels of land with Government Agents in Nelson, Kaslo and Revelstoke. Most of these files have "O" file numbers assigned to them.

Prince George Forest District operational records

This series contains operational records of the Prince George Forest District relating to forest administration, 1919-1981. Records are arranged according to the Forest Service filing system. These records include annual reports, ranger meeting summaries, records regarding timber exports, forest protection, forest reserves, the Peace River hydroelectric projects, the Mica Dam flood basin, land use, timber cruising, silviculture, aerial photography, rights-of-way, timber sales, timber licenses, Public Sustained Yield Units, tree farm licences, and forest wood lot licenses. Also contains construction and maintenance reports pertaining to ranger stations, lookouts, forest roads and trails, boathouses, telephone lines and other Forest Service facilities. Records consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, licenses, permits, plans, etc.

This series consists of pre-emption records for west coast land relating largely to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. The records consist of pre-emption registrations, certificates of pre-emption, pre-emption sketches, certificates that certain lands are unoccupied and open for settlement, some certificates of improvement, and correspondence.

The series consists of the executive records of William Vander Zalm (Minister of Human Resources, 1975-1978). The records document key activities of the minister’s office related to social assistance and public and social support for British Columbians. The records were created between 1976-1978, predominantly 1977-1978, by the minister's office in British Columbia. Some of the subjects covered include children in care and adoptions, health and human resources, daycare, income assistance, seniors' programs and services, disability and poverty rights groups, the Provincial Rehabilitation Program (P.R.E.P), and the BC Conference on the Family.

The records are arranged using an internal file classification scheme and by subject. Records include incoming and outgoing correspondence between the Minister of Human Resources and other government executive members, the public, and various associations and committees. The series also includes memoranda and reports; meeting materials; treasury board submissions; and other internal records documenting ministerial activities. The records are covered by the Executive Records schedule (schedule 102906).

Liquor Control Board correspondence and licence files

The series consists of selected Liquor Control Board (LCB) correspondence files, club licence files, and beer licence files created between 1925 and 1954.

The correspondence files are arranged by LCB file number and include records relating to the establishment of liquor stores, imports, prices, protests and prosecutions. The files also include Chairman W.F. Kennedy's correspondence between 1932 and 1951, correspondence with other government departments and miscellaneous correspondence.

The Club licence files contain the club constitution, lists of members, description of premises, etc. Beer parlor licence files may contain blueprints, inspection reports, descriptions of premises, and photographs. Both sub-series contain physical descriptions and floor plans and are arranged by LCB file number.
