SUMMARY: This compilation of Vancouver radio excerpts was prepared in October 1989 by the B.C. Archives at the request of a client studying media reaction to student activism in the late 1960s. The excerpts were copied from the Fred Smith collection (T3675), which contains over 800 hours of public affairs and open-line programs on radio and television from November 1961 to November 1974. The choice of excerpts was the client's, and represents most of the items from 1965 to 1970 dealing with the youth movement and student activism. Rather than erase and re-use the tapes, the Sound & Moving Image Unit decided to maintain and catalogue this material so it would be readily available to researchers interested in this topic.
