Civil case file, 596/1914: Estate of John Morton, deceased vs. Trustee Act. This case appear to have concluded ca. 1949. The records are in no particular order.

The series consists of a bound volume of Assize Court calendar sheets that date from May 1907 to September 1949. The sheets are for criminal cases heard in the British Columbia Supreme Court at Vancouver, in the Court of Oyer and Terminer and General Gaol Delivery and are arranged by month and year. Each sheet lists cases heard that month and include the case number, name of prisoner, charge, date of conviction, date of sentence, plea, verdict and sentence. There are occasional handwritten notes attached. The sheets are certified as correct by the district registrar and signed by the presiding judge.

Minute books for civil cases, including divorce actions, heard before the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court (A.M. Morrison and W.B. Farris) and Justices A.M. Manson, J.M. Coady, J.O. Wilson, H.S. Wood, N.W. Whittaker, A.W. MacFarlane, J.V. Clyne, A.M. Harper, H.I. Bird, H.B. Robertson, S.A. Smith, J.N. Ellis, and A.I. Fisher. The volumes are indexed by plaintiff and are arranged chronologically by each judge.

The series consists of cause books and case record cards for divorces in the Vancouver Supreme Court between 1946 and 1994. Cause books and case records cards can be used to determine a volume and folio number, which can then be used to obtain a copy of the final divorce order. Cause books and case record cards are also often the only source of information for divorce cases that were dropped and never completed, as no final order would have been granted, and case files would have been destroyed.

Cause books were used by the courts until approximately the mid-1970s. They were replaced by case record cards, which were used until the courts turned to digital systems in the 1990s. Cause books are arranged chronologically, and case record cards are arranged by case number. Cause book and case record card entries typically include the date of filing, the date and place of marriage, the names of the parties and their solicitors, and an account of the case proceedings. The records were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 53200-20.

The records were created in an attempt to retain summary information regarding notable cases of both civil and criminal matters across BC. The copies appear to have been made by the head of Information Services at the BC Courthouse Library Society for the BC Archives. As the Library did not have access to the case files themselves, many of the records are copies of reasons for judgment or entries in the Dominion Law Reports or Western Weekly Reports. Many original case files relating to post-1950 matters have been destroyed. The series contains records relating to cases heard between 1950 and 2003, and the copies appear to have been created around 2003.

The series consists of original copies of wills that were probated in the Vancouver registry. The wills were removed from the original probate files and refiled in a separate accession by registry staff. The records are arranged by probate number, an index to which can be found in GR-2991 and with Archives staff.

The series consists of cause books from the Vancouver Supreme Court for bankruptcy cases between 1950-1987. Cause books provide the skeletal framework for Supreme Court civil action proceedings. Records vary over time and include the name of the party as well as the bankruptcy date. They may also include the name of the trustee, dates of filling for various documents or proceedings, and dollar amounts.

The records are arranged by file number, which includes the last two digits of the year, and were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 53200-20.

The series consists of 26 colour slides taken by Gar Lunney for the Vancouver Supreme Court. The slides show the opening of the Vancouver Courthouse in September 1979 including the speakers, the audience and various shots of the building.
