The series consists of two copies of a three volume submission to the Royal Commission on Forestry by the Bureau of Economics and Statistics. It includes a statement showing the amount of timber held under all types of tenure, by individuals and firms in B.C. during 1938 and 1944.

This series contains memoranda and papers presented at the 1946 District Foresters' Meeting.

The fonds consists of three photograph albums created by Donald Lawrence McMullan between 1928 and 1946. The photographs document his work on forest survey teams for both the provincial and federal governments, as well as surveys conducted by logging and railroad companies.

The first two albums contain photographs from several survey jobs, arranged chronologically. They are divided into sections with an introductory page and a cartographic drawing showing where the particular survey took place. The photographs are usually dated with captions and are as follows:

The third album, created between 1940 and 1946, contains photographs from McMullan's later career and show general forestry activities on Vancouver Island, mainland British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska. Captions and dates are inconsistently applied.

The fonds also includes a copy of McMullan's thesis entitled "The Work of the Surveys Division: British Columbia Forest Service" written in 1932 during McMullan's studies at the University of British Columbia. This thesis is illustrated with five b&w prints and an annotated map. Also included in the fonds is a notice of permanent appointment to the British Columbia civil service dated March 25, 1937 with attached salary schedule and a letter to McMullan dated January 20, 1938 regarding a new classification grading system for Foresters.

This series consists of records of the Commission on Forest Resources (1943-1945). Records consist of transcripts of proceedings of public meetings of the commission, exhibits received, correspondence, arguments, secretary's record book of sittings and subject index to proceedings. A subject index to proceedings was created by the commission and is located in boxes 1 and 2. The finding aid gives a list of exhibits and file list of other records. Immediately following the inquiry, many of the exhibits were transferred to the Forest Service Library and are therefore missing (see box 9, file 1).

This series contains public relations and educational reference material consisting of texts for public lectures, radio broadcasts and materials relating to ranger training prior to the establishment of the Forest Ranger School at Green Timbers. Much of the material was originally produced for the annual District Foresters Meetings.

This series contains the agenda of discussion topics at the Vancouver Forest District Ranger Meeting held February 21-25, 1949.

This series contains the minutes of the 1951 Ranger Meeting.

The series consists of invoices for building rentals, timber mark hammer purchases, and other items for forest districts handled by the central records office of the Forest Branch and later the Forest Service in Victoria. Records are arranged by forest district and then by invoice number. Invoices numbers are assigned chronologically. The records include: Kamloops (number 1 to 400, 1921-1931); Victoria (number 1 to 4400, 1914-1951); Vernon (number 1 to 155, 1921-1925); Cranbrook (number 1 to 39, 1921-1926); Nelson (number 1 to 2399, 1921-1951); Prince George (number 1 to 1300, 1921-1926); Prince Rupert (number 1 to 2800, 1918-1951), Williams Lake (number 1 to 81, 1920-1932) and Vancouver (numbers 1001 to 2000 and 4001 to 16442, 1929-1952).

This series contains an inventory of the mature and immature timber on Crown Land within the confines of the Trans-Mountain Oil Pipe Line Company right-of-way prepared by C.D. Schultz and Co. for Canadian Bechtel Ltd. and submitted to the District Forester, Fort George. Internal evidence suggests that there were originally at least nine more folios to this report.

Copies of letters (July 28, 1952; March 1, 1954) and attachments from Squamish Towing and Contracting Co. to Robert E. Sommers, Minister of Lands and Forests, concerning the application of Empire Mills Ltd. for a private management licence in the Squamish district.

This series contains the "Report to the Royal Commission on Forests and Forestry: The Background to Stand Treatment Policies in the Northern Interior." The report is illustrated with pasted-in photographs.

This series consists of records of the 1955 Royal Commission on Forest Resources, led by Commissioner Gordon McGregor Sloan. Records include transcripts of evidence, exhibits, proceedings, arguments, and report synopsis. Box 1 contains a bound index of commission records. It should be noted that some exhibits are missing from this unit. They were never received by BC Archives and their location is unknown. Some page numbers were not used in printed volumes.

This series contains briefs submitted to the Minister of Lands and Forests regarding the application by Canadian Forest Products Company for a Tree Farm Licence in the Nimpkish River area.

This series consists of a "Forest Management Licences Management Record" ledger containing records of licences and cutting permits issued including: permit or licence number, name of licencee, dates of advertisement, approval and expiry, location, timber marks, transfers and renewals. Also, the series contains an example of the form in which applications for cutting permits were to be made to the department.

The series consists of 43 films created or collected by the Forest Service between ca. 1922 and 1965.

This series contains official field diaries kept by Forest Assistant Ronald Bradley and Technical Field Officer R. Craigdallie while posted to the Barriere Ranger District (RD 3) from April 1964 through March 1965.

The series consists of working documents, microfilmed from their three ring binder in 1965, used by the vault staff of the Surveys and Inventory Division as location guides, finding aids and loan sheets, mainly for maps and air photographs. The collection includes some textual records and cruise sheets.

This series contains operational records from the Prince George Forest District and consists of property ledgers for "non-expendable property" - see: Operational Manual with instructions to Forest Officers ... (Victoria, 1942), pp. 161-168, 311-327 for definitions and instructions - and a uniform ledger containing records concerning items on charge to personnel who have left the district. Files 1-5, Volume 1 are a property ledger for the period 1953-1955; File 6, Volume 1 through File 1, Volume 4 are a property ledger, 1961-1966; and Files 2-4, Volume 4 contain a uniform ledger, 1950-1970.

This series contains records of the Forest Ranger of Golden Ranger District. Records consist of scaling permits correspondence, annual reports, park use permits, district circulars, sawmill burning permits, and posters.

This series contains the working records of a committee established to draft revisions to the sections of the Forest Act relating to the protection of forests from fire.

The records are arranged chronologically.

This series consists of records of the 1975 Royal Commission on Forest Resources led by Commissioner Peter H. Pearse. Records include exhibits, transcripts of evidence, correspondence, subject files, working papers, financial records and newspaper clippings.

The finding aid provides an alphabetical listing of exhibits (volumes 1-9), a file list of correspondence and subject files (volumes 10-13), and a file list of working papers (volumes 14-16). Volumes 17 and 18 contain newspaper clippings about the activities of the Commission, volume 19 is a Ledger of accounts and volumes 20 to 28 contain the transcripts of evidence taken at public hearings of the commission. An alphabetical index of participants providing the transcript volume number and page numbers of testimony given is included at the end of the finding aid.

To find briefs of particular participants, researchers are advised to search the alphabetical listing of briefs for the appropriate box number. References to the original numbering of briefs done by the Commission no longer have meaning for retrieval purposes.

This series contains circular letters from District Forester to field staff pertaining to forest protection, forest management, etc. It includes some circular letters from the Chief Forester to District Foresters.

The fonds consists of minutes, financial statements, membership lists, files and correspondence of the Vancouver Island Section of the Canadian Institute of Forestry, the Forestry Discussion Group and the Victoria Section of the Canadian Society of Forest Engineers.

Review of the Report on the Royal Commission on Forest Resources.

This series consists of records related to timber marks on private land. The records were created and used by the Kaslo office of the Nelson Forest District from approximately 1940-1978. Private timber marks are used to transport logs from privately-owned land by certifying ownership of the logs. The records relate to the issuance of timber marks on private lands pursuant to the Forest Act. This includes applications, approvals, certificates, Letters of Marking Authority, inspection reports, correspondence, notices of timber mark cancellation, scaling records, and some licences to cut on private land. The records include many maps of district lots where timber was cut.

The records are arranged by district lot (DL). Note that most files only relate to a smaller portion of a district lot. The file list includes the relevant district lot and the name of the licensee for each file.
