Two manuscript histories of Canada produced for the Dominion History Competition, which was possibly held for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The histories are by "Canadienne" and "Fleur de lis, Beaver".

The file consists of drivers licenses issued to Walter Luney, Florence Augusta Luney and George Albert Hood at Victoria on 16 February 1925; these were the first drivers' licenses issued in British Columbia. Also included in this files are a copy of permit number 1, issued under the Motor Vehicle Speed Regulation Act on 29 February 1904, and a notification to attend a driver's examination (no date).

The item is a typescript copy of a B.A. essay by Susan Dickinson titled "Edward Cridge and George Hills: doctrinal conflict, 1872-1874, and the founding of Church of Our Lord in Victoria, British Columbia, 1875". iii, 146 leaves. Essay (B.A.). Bibliography: Leaves 129-139.

Thomson RECORDED: Hopkins Landing (B.C.), 1974-07-30 & -08-01, etc. SUMMARY: In a series of interviews recorded by his grandson, Eric R. Thomson of Hopkins Landing discusses: a 1902 trip up the Skeena with his father, James Thomson, of the Hudson's Bay Company; a 1911 trip up the Stikine; and his recollections of growing up in Victoria, 1896-1904.

The series consists of microfilmed transcripts of short essays on various subjects, including the transport and mining industries in B.C., the history of B.C., descriptions of Victoria and other B.C. cities by Cariboo grocer Leonard A. Coton. Also includes accounts of car trips taken by L.A. Coton to the Okanagan, the Cariboo and on Vancouver Island in the 1950s.

The file consists of correspondence inward (2 letters) pertaining to Francis Grattan's appointment to the Victoria Little Symphony Orchestra, and to the guest appearance of G. Huntley Green with the orchestra; music programmes of the Victoria Little Symphony Orchestra, and photocopies of photographs and newspaper clippings.

The item is a black and white photograph probably taken by Charles Macmunn in 1897 or 1898. It is taken from Christchurch Cathedral in Victoria looking towards James Bay and shows the new Parliament buildings and the birdcage buildings.

Daybooks of an unidentified Victoria merchant recording sales of groceries. Entries include description of items sold, date of sale, price and name of purchaser.

Item is a large, framed photograph of British Columbia Forest Branch staff standing outside the annex building at the corner of Superior and Government Sts. in Victoria, BC. The photograph was taken around April 1, 1913 and may have been framed for presentation or display. The staff names and positions are identified in the caption.

Item consists of two oversized certificates presented to Harriet Cotsford Mackay, a student at South Park School, Victoria, in 1895. On September 18, she was awarded a diploma for her writing by the British Columbia Agricultural and Industrial Association at their 19th annual exhibition. On December 20, she was awarded her high school entrance certificate by the Superintendent of Education.

The file contains a History of Victoria Golf Club, 1893-1983, by Eric Parker.

The item consists of a letter to "Dear Sister" (sister in law) from "James Porter and Motherless Children" dated March 10, 1859, conveying the news of his wife's death and describing his purchases of land. The letter is written on lined paper on one side of the back of which is "View of Victoria, Vancouver Island, July, 1858" accompanied by a brief written history and description of Victoria.

The item is a letter to "Uncle Frank" from Winslow Johnson, dated Victoria, December 16, 1878, describing living conditions and employment prospects in Victoria.
