Weir Family records

The series includes an agreement, in the handwriting of William Weir, January 1, 1865 regarding properties in Metchosin, British Columbia signed by Adam Weir, Hugh T. Weir, John Weir, Robert Weir and William Weir. It also includes a transcript typescript of the diary of Adam Weir's gold rush trip to the Cassiar district, November 1874. On this trip, Weir was accompanied by Alex Fulton, Hans Helgesen and B. Sutter.

The series contains a microfilm copy of the diary of the Weir family of Metchosin, 1866-1870. The reel also includes a copy of Adam Weir's Cassiar diary, 1874 and genealogical notes on the Evans family (William Evans, 1802-1883), ancestors of Leighton Evans, coastal mariner.

The series consists of a diary relating to the Weir family farming activities in the Metchosin area on Vancouver Island, British Columbia from 1866 to 1870. This diary was written by Adam and Hugh Weir, the sons of Robert Weir. There is an edited transcript of this diary prepared by Ronald J. Weir in January 1974, with two maps showing property.

The series consists of correspondence inward and outward of the Ministere des affaires etrangeres, the office Direction des consulates et affaires commerciales and the French consulate at San Francisco. The majority of the correspondence relates to the Colony of British Columbia.

Correspondence and miscellaneous papers

Correspondence inward and outward (1882-1896) and miscellaneous papers (1892-1916). The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by sender and covers a variety of topics including: the proposed purchase of property at Coal Harbour, Vancouver; conservative politics; purchase of land in Manitoba; Chiefs Crowfoot and Poundmaker; treatment of Indians; and danger of starvation amongst the whites. Also includes some letters from Peter O'Reilly of Victoria.

William Curtis Ward records

William Curtis Ward was an important British Columbia banker and entrepreneur. The fonds consists of five letters inward from people who had connections with British Columbia and were writing to ask for advice on land holdings or to keep in touch and convey information about themselves and their families. There is also a letter from Nellie Grant, the daughter of Captain John Marshall Grant, R.E. who came to British Columbia with Colonel Moody in 1858, giving information on the family.

Company records

The series consists of the company records of Mercury Pictures Inc. (1976-1996) and Grey Fox Pictures Inc. (1979-1996), prior to their eventual amalgamation (on February 1, 1996) as "Mercury Pictures Inc."

Early film productions

The series consists of film research, correspondence, screenplay drafts, and film production elements that document the development of Borsos' career prior to his first feature film, "The Grey Fox" (1982). Most of the series pertains to the creation and reception of three short films: "Cooperage" (1976), "Spartree" (1977) and "Nails" (1979). Some of the series also documents his work as a student filmmaker and planning he undertook for "The Grey Fox". Other early productions represented include Borsos' student films "The Barking Dog" (1973) and "Cadillac" (1974); the documentaries "The Making of Spartree" (1978) and "Racquetball" (1979); and the BC-government-sponsored forestry film "Phase Three: Regeneration" (1978).

Commercials

The series consists entirely of moving image documents (originals and reproductions) of television commercials directed by Phillip Borsos in the 1980s and early 1990s.

In order to supplement his income as a filmmaker, Borsos (through his company Mercury Pictures Inc. and a production service, The Partners' Film Company) directed television commercials for various products, services and British Columbia provincial government programs.

Film development projects and financial files

The series consists of six sub-series that document the development of five feature films that were never put into production by Borsos: "Band of Brothers" (an earlier version of the television series); "Billy Buckles, Cockroach Killer", based on an original screenplay by Beret Paulsen [Beret Borsos]; "A Canticle for Leibowitz", based on the novel of the same name by Walter M. Miller, Jr.; "Dustship", based on the novel "Dustship Glory" by Andreas Schroeder; "The Cider House Rules", based on the novel of the same name by John Irving; and "The Captive", based on the life and journal of John R. Jewitt.

The series also includes one sub-series of screenplays submitted to Borsos by studios and individual writers for his review, as well as miscellaneous film development project and financial files. The film development files of each sub-series may contain research materials, correspondence, screenplay drafts, contracts, technical drawings, photographs and financial data.
