This series contains proceedings of the Forest Protection Officers' meetings held at Victoria: 11-13 December, 1962; 24-26 November, 1964 and 6-8 December 1966; Kamloops: 9-11 January 1968; and Victoria: 26-28 February, 1969; 8-10 December, 1970; 28-30 November, 1972 and 3-5 December, 1974. The purpose of these meetings was to improve techniques of the prevention and suppression of forest fires.

This series contains project files from the Mitchell River Bridge, Invermere Ranger District, Project 196. Types of records includes photographs and brief construction history.

Series consists of photographs created or acquired by the British Columbia Forest Service for Project 87. In 1981 the Ministry of Forests began Project 87 to research its history as a basis for the 75th anniversary in 1987. Ministry staff collected photographs from both within the ministry and externally from museums, ex-staff and forestry associations, to provide details on the activities of the Forest Service.

This series contains a report from the Public Relations and Education Division. The report was prepared for the Royal Commission on Forest Resources (1955-57). This copy contains more material than that found in the records of the Commission, see GR-0668, Box 3, file 7 (exhibit 31).

This series contains miscellaneous material relating to forest fires and forest protection. Records consist of the fire-control equipment handbook (1946) and the radio handbook (1939) of the United States Forest Service. These manuals and the portable radio and fire-fighting gear were widely used by the B.C. Forest Service. Includes fire fighters' manuals (5 volumes, 1918-1942) prepared by the Western Forestry and Conservation Association and a catalog of portable fire fighting pumpers (1939).

This series contains a 15-page report on the Sixth British Commonwealth Forestry Conference by F.S. McKinnon, Assistant Chief Forester in charge of Technical Planning, official British Columbia delegate to the Conference.

This series contains a 9 page report by Hon. Gordon M. Sloan regarding a proposal to create a marketing area for forest products in the Hope region.

This series contains the report of the commissioner in the matter of a tree-farm licence and in the matter of Empire Mills Ltd. It was written by Judge C.W. Morrow, Commissioner.

This series contains records of the Engineering Division of the Forest Service. Types of records include reports on the design and construction of a lake transporter for heavy vehicles (1961) and on the design, construction and operation of a raft for burning residual wood debris on lakes (1976), illustrated with photographs.

This series contains records of the Research Division of the Forest Service. Records include a report (carbon copy) on regeneration surveys carried out in 1962 by M. Crown, Forester-in-Training on Vancouver Island and on the Sechelt Peninsula, illustrated with hand coloured whiteprint map and a study of the survival rate of trees planted in the Southern Interior, an in-service reforestation report by M.B. Clark.

This series contains a road log for the Alaska Highway issued by the office of the Special Commissioner for Defence Projects in North West Canada.

This series contains briefs submitted to Royal Commissions. It includes briefs on four main topics: the first is the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the use of Pesticides and Herbicides (1973). It includes photographs that have been pasted within. The second brief concerns the Royal Commission on Forest Resources (1975) specifically in regards to Pest Management: a neglected aspect of the Forest-Tenure Policy and Agreements by N.E. Alexander and J.H. Borden. The third is a brief submitted to the Royal Commission on Forest Resources in 1975, and lastly the series also contains a submission to the Royal Commission on the British Columbia Railway (1977). The last set of records also includes press clippings.

This series contains the "Report to the Royal Commission on Forests and Forestry: The Background to Stand Treatment Policies in the Northern Interior." The report is illustrated with pasted-in photographs.

This series consists of Scalers' licences, Nos. 1-3000; and receipt book.

This series contains 2 volumes of newspaper clipping scrapbooks regarding forests and forestry activities of the Minister and Chief Forester, and other forest-related topics. The scrapbooks were maintained by the Public Relations and Education Division.

This series consists of special use permit files relating to forest lands. The Forest Branch, and its successor agencies, approved these permits to give municipalities, companies and individuals the authority to use Crown forest land for a variety of land uses. Some of the permitted uses include logging, recreation, agriculture, fisheries and housing.

The records date from 1889-2011 and were created and maintained by the Victoria Forest Office. The records deal with all regions of the province. The records are arranged by special use permit number which consists of the prefix S, or SUP, and a sequential number. Note that this order may not be exact, particularly for later records.

The files contain copies of the permit, applications for a permit, correspondence, sketches and maps of the area covered by the permit, receipts for the lease payments, reports, and clearance forms. Some documents in the file have been stamped with 6-7 digit correspondence register numbers and references to the “O” lands file number.

The ministry maintained a register and index that provides additional information for each file. This index listed the following information: file number, district, forest, applicant/holder, function, location, atlas reference, date received, date cleared and comments. Although the original registers have not been transferred to the archives, the ministry provided the archives with scans of the registers.

There were multiple government offices responsible for managing these records between 1931 and 1992.

This series contains a study on the organization and administrative systems of the Forest Service together with recommendations for departmental reorganization done by Stevenson and Kellogg Ltd., Management Engineers for the Ministry of Lands and Forests, presented to E.T. Kenney, Minister of Lands and Forests, September 26, 1951. These recommendations were partially implemented by the Departmental reorganization of June 10, 1952.

This series contains translations of technical reports relating to reforestation, forest fires, silviculture, yield, growth, soil, and other scientific studies of forest biology.

Typescript of statistical information corrected to Dec. 31, 1959, including timber licences, list of holders; record of pulp licences; list of active licence timber berths; record of pulp leases.

This series contains volume tables for coastal forest districts. Volume tables were used to determine areas of merchantable timber for possible issuance of timber sales.
