The outs include area scenery and footage of boat racing, riding, parade and celebrations marking May Day and/or Victoria Day, skiing, street scenes and general views.

Laying submarine cable to Gulf Islands

The item is a reel of film footage from ca. 1948. It shows cable-laying operations: at False Creek, reels of cable are winched aboard a Straits Towing barge, cable-laying operation proceeds off the shore of one of the Gulf Islands, employing barge and tugboat, shore crews are also shown at work and linemen hang a line transformer.

McGregor diversion

The item consists of a release print of an industrial film from the 1970s. It is a progress report on studies of the McGregor Diversion, a plan to boost the power output capacities of both the Bennett and Site One dams on the Peace River. The proposal was to dam the McGregor River and its tributaries, creating a large reservoir of water that would reach the dams via the Parsnip River and Williston Lake. The engineering, environmental effects, downstream flood control value, social impacts and costs of the plan are considered.

Men at work

The item is a release print of an industrial film from ca. 1958. BC Power Commission employees do many jobs essential to the maintenance of electrical service. The film includes footage of snow survey work on central Vancouver Island, a logging crew clearing trees at the edge of a reservoir, work in progress on the water diversion tunnel at Ash River, transmission tower construction, a crew hanging warning markers on power lines, inspection of power lines via helicopter and Spillimacheen generating station. There are also scenes in Fort St. James and vicinity. The film is set within the framework of a simulated interview show on CHEK-TV. Director of administration Garth Griffith and public information officer Jim Bogyo talk with host Keith Cutler.

construction of Westcoast Transmission's natural gas pipeline from the Peace River gas fields to Huntington in the Lower Mainland. It includes views of the Peace River region, Fraser Valley, Fraser River and Thompson River, construction of pipeline river crossing in Coquihalla Canyon, land clearing, shipload of pipe arriving at Vancouver Harbour, views from PGE train carrying pipe north and procedure of welding and ditching pipe.

It is the second in a series of films on the Peace River development at Portage Mountain; shows the complex operations required to divert the Peace River and leave the river bed dry for preparation of the dam site; includes excavation and reinforcing of tunnels for the diversion.

The item consists of five reels of original reversal footage/outs from ca. 1964 to 1969. The footage shows aspects of the Peace River project other than dam or powerhouse construction. Footage includes: exploring the Peace River canyon by boat; settlements and farms along the river; fossils and geology; burning of abandoned buildings; flooded areas and debris; land clearing, construction and community scenes in and around Hudson's Hope from ca. 1964-1965.
