In the first picture is a large group of soldiers posing for a picture ourside their tents. In the second picture is a picture of three soldiers. One of the soldiers is significantly taller than the other two 'bantams'. This could be for several reasons; some positions in the battalion, such as those taking part in the marching band, were exempt from the height restrictions upon recruitment. Furthermore, near the end of the recruitment period, as enrolment stalled, the 143rd Battalion began accepting men who were taller than 5'4'' (163 cm).
