Ringers required : [long version]

Documentary. Recreates the revival of change-ringing of the bells at Vancouver's Holy Rosary Cathedral, after a five-year hiatus. Shows the training of bell-ringers and the ringing-in of the New Year. The bells of Westminster Abbey in Mission City are also heard. Members of the Vancouver Society of Change Ringers are featured. Winner of a Canadian Film Award in the amateur category (1961).

Ripple Rock

Industrial film. The destruction of Ripple Rock, a long-time menace to shipping in Seymour Narrows, by the world's largest non-nuclear explosion. Footage includes animated diagrams of the project; preparatory tests with models; underwater tunnelling and drilling operations; the shipment and placing of explosives; aerial and general views of the Narrows, and the various technical preparations for the explosion, as well as the blast and its results.

Waves of magic

Documentary. The installation of the BC portion of a trans-Canada microwave relay system for telephone and television transmission. Shows surveying and testing of relay sites and construction of relay stations, especially the station on Dog Mountain (near Hope), where an aerial tramway was used to transport men and equipment.

Whaling for science

Educational. Whaling in the Queen Charlotte Islands, ca. 1938. Scientists researching the function of the pituitary gland seek to study the organ in a whale. Includes shots of Rose Harbour whaling station, harpooning a whale, securing the whale to the ship, and landing, flensing, and processing the carcass. Depicts in detail the anatomical dissection of a whale, concluding with examination of the pituitary gland. May include shots of Naden Harbour. The study was funded by the National Research Council, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the University of Chicago.

Woodfibre -- Squamish 75 years

Documentary. Video presentation of reunion commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Woodfibre pulp mill. Includes a visit to the mill, a dinner/dance at the Squamish ice arena and an indoor sports day and picnic.

Industrial film. A survey of the Pacific coast fishing industry. Follows a commercial fishing vessel on a typical trip along the BC coast, and shows the various fishing methods used. Also includes footage of cannery operations, fish ladders at Hells Gate, spawning grounds, the cleaning of fish on a processing ship, fishery by-products (such as fish meal used for stock feed), the manufacture of nets and other equipment, fishing boat maintenance, etc. Features fishing boats Pacific Raider and Western Provider.
