The old canoe maker

The item is a black and white photographic print showing a First Nations man working on a canoe. The photograph was taken by commercial photographer Edgar Fleming. Portions of the image have been outlined in ink.

The item consists of one watercolour painting by Gwladys Woodward (also spelled Gladys) . The title of the painting is not known but depicts a group of trees. Another painting (PDP10269a) is on the reverse. The painting is not signed.

The sub-series consists of 157 assorted drawings and illustrations. Some of these were created by Ted Noram at some point around the mid-20th century. Many of the illustrations are signed by the artist. The subject matter consists mostly of drawings of Indigenous tools, botanical drawings, and Indigenous people of Canada. The images include illustrations made for the books Edible Wild Plants and Native Tribes of Canada, both written by John Douglas Leechman.

Item consists of a mount of one group portrait of 19 children in fancy dress (costume). Portrait was taken indoors. "For Mrs. Mara" is written in pencil on the verso.

Item consists of one photograph of 27 unidentified men in uniform posed on the deck of a military ship. Several are wearing sweaters stating "Fishery Service." At least two houses can been seen along the treed coastline in the background.

Item consists of one photograph of 12 unidentified men in matching dark blazers over white shirts, trousers, and scarves. Blazer emblems are illegible. The man laying in the foreground is wearing cricket pads and a hat. Illegible signatures have been added on or above each man using black ink. The men are posed outdoors in front of a canvas tent or structure.
