Forbidden Plateau Lodge and family photographs

The series consists of photographs and postcards of Forbidden Plateau Lodge and the surrounding area in the 1940s and 1950s. Subjects include: guests, wildlife, building interiors and exteriors, and lodge activities such as horseback riding with packhorses and skiing. The series also consists of family photographs, with pets, and traveling in California, and possibly the southern interior of B.C., from the late 1920s and 1930s.

Work and family photographs

The series consists of photographs relating to George F. Lowe's construction work on the B.C. coast from 1935 to 1951, and also the leisure activities of the Lowe family on Vancouver Island and other B.C. coast locations. His daughter, Margaret Lowe (Peggy), was part of these leisure activities; she may have played a role in creating the family photographs.

Subjects include: the Estevan Point wireless office, Hesquiat village and the road to Hesquiat, dead whales, Pachena Point, Clo-oose, Alert Bay and the Indian residential school at Alert Bay. Photographs attributed to “Royal Canadian Air Force Photographs” depict: Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii) locations including Skidegate Mission, the plank highway at Tlell River. Other photographs depict the St. Roch refit (1938), Sidney Island (1941), Digby Island (1947), Bull Harbour and Prince Rupert. Jack Wrathall is identified as a photographer.

Gladys O'Kelly presentation photographs

The series consists of 26 graphic records. They are a mix of photographs (either purchased copies or originals) and postcards. Many include annotations made by O'Kelly on the verso. They have been used in an article or presentation, as they include numbered and typed descriptions attached to the image. One image has been touched up for use in a newspaper. Two photographs are identified as Lomen Bros. images and were likely purchased by O'Kelly. Some may duplicate images already included in the Gladys O'Kelly fonds. The photographs were collected by O'Kelly either during her journey or shortly after to commemorate it. They represent people and places that she saw during her travels.

Kirby was a provincial police constable at Port Essington, 1893-1900, and at Hazelton 1900-1908. He was a mining recorder at Hazelton from 1908-1918 and at Smithers until 1931.
