This series consists of three volumes of Richfield Magistrate's record books. Volumes are a charge and sentence book, 1862-1874; charge and sentence book, 1974-1978, containing licencing records kept by the court registry, 1878-1907; and a notebook, 1887-1914, recording Magistrate's court cases at Richfield, Small Debts Court cases at Richfield and some cases at Soda Creek and Quesnel.

This series contains scaling and royalty accounts from the Tete Jaune Forest District.

This series consists of a wide variety of records received or created by government officials in the Cariboo region from 1868 to 1915. Most of the records are addressed to government officials or were created by courts in the following places: Richfield, Barkerville, Quesnelle Forks and other locations in the Cariboo district. Over the years, the government offices responsible for the entire Cariboo district were located in each of these towns. The majority of the records appear to have been received by the Government Office, Richfield.

At this time government offices held a very wide range of responsibilities which could be done by as few as one person. The records relate to several government officials: the Gold Commissioner, Government Agent, Magistrate, County Court judge and Supreme Court judge.

The majority of the records are related to leasing, purchasing or gaining access to water for mining claims. This includes some records from the Gold Commissioner court.

There are also many county court and supreme court records. These records include summons; wills; probate and other estate records; search warrants; assizes; court transcripts; evidence; coroner inquest records; assize court calendars; sheriff records; and notes of the Board of Liquor Licence Commissioners approving renewal of liquor licences.

Other types of records include general correspondence from settlers; census data; voters lists; voter registration forms from Keithley Creek; criminal statistics; Land Ordinances; pre-emption records and other records related to the Land Act; naturalization oaths; indentures; receipts and financial records; maps; petitions for liquor licences; a BC Savings Bank (Cariboo Branch) depositors book; and a register of letters inward and outward for 1910-1915.

This series consists of seven volumes of records of the Water Commissioner, Lillooet, B.C., related to water rights, 1859-1915. Includes grants of water right, licences, plans, notices, etc. Volume 5 covers area from south of Lillooet to 150 Mile House and includes Hanceville and Big Creek; volume 3 includes lots on the North Thompson.

Documents relating to Cariboo district estates. Files 1-6 contain Letters of Administration; file 7 is a probate file. The remainder include copies of Succession Duties. Files are from both County and Supreme court and some were handled by the Official Administrator.

This series consists of Cariboo Land District, auctioneer's agreements, subdivision lots 11385, at Fort George from 1914. The lots were subdivided from District Lots 343, 933, 934, 936, 938, and 1429, and are arranged randomly by lot and sublot, but numerically by certificate number, in each volume. Information may include date of sale, name and address of highest bidder and amount bid, deposit, and terms of sale. No index is available.

The series includes two volumes. Volume 1 includes entries for certificates 1-721, and volume 2 is 722-1385.

This series contains registers of brands (for both cattle and horses) kept by district recording offices prior to 1914. Registers pertain to brands registered in Cariboo, Similkameen, Okanagan, and Nanaimo districts. This series may be used in conjunction with other district brands registers (GR-0409 - GR-0412) and with post-1914 brands registers (GR-1488). A regulated system of branding or marking livestock in British Columbia began with the Cattle Ordinance of 1869 (32 Vic., No. 114) which established a procedure whereby cattle brands and other distinctive markings could be registered with district magistrates for a fee of 25¢. The system developed further with the Cattle Marking Act, 1875 (BCS 38 Vic. c.14) which defined "cattle" to include "horses, mares, fillies, foals, geldings, colts, bulls, bullocks, cows, heifers, steers, calves, sheep, hogs, mules and asses." Recording officers were appointed by cabinet for each electoral district and were authorized to keep a register of brands and markings; local justices of the peace were empowered to ensure that brands were not duplicated, obliterated, or defaced and penalties were set for infractions. In 1881 the registration fee was raised to 50 ¢ (Cattle Brands Act, 44 Vic. c.4) and in 1888 provisions were made for regional cattle districts, whose boundaries were not necessarily identical to those of electoral districts. A distinction was also made in 1888 between the Mainland and Vancouver Island: in Mainland districts, brands were to be registered by an "authorized recording officer" usually the local Government Agent while on the Island brands were to be recorded by district magistrates. These distinctions were abolished in 1894 by the Cattle Act Amendment Act which confirmed Government Agents as "authorized recording officers" throughout the province. The procedure of registering brands was streamlined and centralized by the Brand Act of 1914 (4 Geo. 5 c.9). With this act, provision was made for a Recorder of Brands (responsible to the Minister of Agriculture) and a three man Board of Brand Commissioners. After 1 July 1914 all applications for brand registers or transfers were made through the Recorder's office in Victoria. The fee for brand registration was increased to $1.00 and henceforth all brands were to be renewed annually at a cost of 50 ¢. GR 1487 consists of brands registers and indexes kept prior to 1914. In most cases, the registers show the name and address of brand owners, the date and certificate number of the brand registration, and a description of registered brands and markings. Registers pertain to both cattle and horses. Since the districts covered by the registers were not rigidly defined, researchers may have to consult more than one volume to locate specific brands or brand owners. This series may be used in conjunction with GR 0409 GR 0412 (Registers for Cariboo, Lillooet, and New Westminster, 18701913) and with GR 1488 (post1914 brands registers and indexes).

The series consists of Forest Branch records created between 1912 and 1914. The series contains timber cruiser reports by W.J. Kelly on diverse tracts, including holdings of the Lillooet and Cariboo Land Company, Ltd. Reports include numerous photographs and maps.

This series consists of two volumes of Water Rights Branch Board of Investigation minute books of meetings regarding the adjudication of water rights claims and the issuance of water licenses pursuant to the Water Act, 1909.

The fonds consists of correspondence, diaries (1857-1910), letterbook, addresses to, autobiography, sermon and lecture notes of Reverend Ebenezer Robson. Includes extensive correspondence inward (see finding aid for names of correspondents).

This series consists of 24 volumes of plaint and procedure books from sittings at Richfield, Williams Lake, Soda Creek, Barkerville, Quesnel, Ashcroft, and 150 Mile House, 1862-1910; cash book, 1862-1883; sheriff's fee book, 1864-1865; bench books, 1864-1867; and Gold Commissioner's Court case books, 1864-1893. Note that a single volume may have been used for multiple purposes.

Mineral Claims Mortgage Register, 2 vols. This register is a record of mortgages held on mineral claims, of construction and work agreements, and of various indentures relating to mines at Antler Creek, Grouse Creek, Canadian Creek, Lowhee Creek, Jack of Clubs Creek, Stevens Creek, French Creek, Beggs Gulch, Valley Creek and Mosquito Creek. Volume 2 consists of an alphabetical index.

Register of cattle brands in Cariboo district.

This series contains 2 volumes of Timber Licences Indices. These registers contain information such as the name and licence number, date, fee amount, some file references and clippings of gazette notices related mostly to the Cariboo district. Volume 1 covers the period 23 July 1907 to 12 June 1908 and contains a nominal list, an index to the Departmental Map, and the notation, "to be used in conjunction with the Timber Licence Register." Volume 2 covers the period 22 October 1907 to 27 April 1908.

This series contains a register of grants of water rights for mining purposes in Cariboo district, arranged chronologically with a nominal index.

Consists of a collection of unidentified account books from hotels, businesses and mining companies in the Cariboo district. The records have been acquired by the archives over a number of years and placed into this collection.

This series consists of a sheriff's record book from 150 Mile House, Sept. 1900 - Jun. 1904.

The fonds consists of debit and payroll vouchers and statements of the Incorporated Exploration Company of British Columbia and the Slough Creek Company.

This series contains sums collected for Free Miner's licences, pre-emptions, records, etc. The records capture the name of the person paying. Totals are noted periodically as having been paid over to the sub accountant, Barkerville.

Civil case files from 1890-1902; 1906; 1912-1942 with the exception of probate/estate files (GR-1959) and Judge's Criminal Court files (GR-1960) which are filed separately. Appeals of Magistrate's convictions are included. There are a few files from Lytton, 1893-1896.

Register of cattle brands in Cariboo district.

This series contains records relating to winter sleigh roads and bridges in the Cariboo district. It includes tenders, specifications and an 1892 report by the district road superintendent.

This series contains plaint and procedure books, 1864-1896. In addition to the County Court of Cariboo at Quesnel, also includes cases heard in the County Court of Cariboo at Soda Creek, Richfield, and 150 Mile House.

This series consists of a Barkerville Provincial Police charge book, 1866-1896.
