Photograph depicts two portraits of soldiers wearing Highland uniforms. This includes the British pattern khaki Highland cut-away 'doublet' jacket with five buttons, khaki kilt apron with integral pocket (replaces the sporran in tradition Highland dress) and a Balmoral for headdress. Tartans were removed from kilts sometime during the war as they were costly and difficult to supply. Also note the fall collars which differ from the Other Ranks Service Dress.
