Fort Steele mining recorder records

The series consists of records created by the Fort Steele Mining Recorder between 1895 and 1918. The records cover the area surrounding Fort Steele and along the St. Mary's River in the Fort Steele Mining Division of the East Kootenay District. The records include applications under the Mineral Act for mining claims and certificates of work; notices from miners filed with mining recorder; and transcribed copies of mineral claim transfers and conveyances, primarily in the form of bills of sale.

The fonds consists of accounts, correspondence, fur returns, a register of marriage licences and a letter book created by various Fort Vancouver Hudson's Bay Company officials between 1832 and 1858. Most of the correspondence consists of both originals and copies of letters outward written by Chief Factor John McLoughlin and Chief Traders James Douglas and Peter Skene Ogden however there are also letters sent by company clerk Dugald Mactavish. The letter book also includes private correspondence of James Douglas, 1866-1877.

The fonds consists of correspondence, account books, a land office blotter, letterbooks, and fur tariffs of Fort Victoria and the Victoria Land Office of the Hudson's Bay Company. Fonds include a register of land purchased from Indians near Fort Victoria and a record of agreements with Indians at Fort Rupert, Nanaimo, Barkley Sound and Port Alberni.

Frampton family fonds

The fonds consists of Keith Frampton's diaries for surveys in the Alberni, Qualicum and Effingham Inlet areas, 1907 to 1909 and Cecil Frampton's photograph album with sketch map that records a hiking trip to Strathcona Park in 1936. The album also contains a newsclipping obituary dated 2003 and copy of a photograph that were apparently slipped into the front of the album ca. 2003.

F2021:02/001: "Frank Ogden: Your Place in the 3rd Millenium" is a 2 hour recording of a lecture given by Frank Ogden in 1994, and is labelled as a Shaw Cable Parksville production.

F2021:02/002: "Frank Ogden: Dr. Tomorrow Profile" was self-produced ca 1985, and features Frank Ogden advertizing his services and books in a 12 minute video. It appears to include some clips from an inteview Frank did with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The fonds consists of 92 black and white 13 x 9 cm photographic prints of Victoria and area, taken by Frank Stanley Martin between 1956 and 1963. Most of the photographs are numbered from 1-77 (no number 38 or 76) with an additional 17 unnumbered prints. Most are identified on the back with the date and place and some include other information. This information may have been recorded by Martin. In several cases, his attributions as to street names may not be correct.

The photographs are mostly of Victoria streets and buildings and include the Post Office, Customs building, shops and offices, the Court house, street scenes, homes and apartment buildings. There are also a few photos of Beacon Hill Park, the Breakwater and Oak Bay.
