Special event coverage. Chronicles the August 28-30, 1956, inauguration of through-service on the Pacific Great Eastern Railway between North Vancouver and Prince George. Premier W.A.C. Bennett and other dignitaries ride the three inaugural trains, which are eagerly greeted by the residents of towns along the route. A rockslide at Mile 18 on Howe Sound delays the journey until a bulldozer clears the tracks. At Williams Lake station, a mock frontier lynching is staged for the entertainment of the premier and his party. Following footage of the arrival in Prince George, the film also shows progress on northward expansion of the PGE line (including bridge and grade construction), and ends with shots of oil rigs in the Peace River Region.

Industrial film. A survey of the Pacific coast fishing industry. Follows a commercial fishing vessel on a typical trip along the BC coast, and shows the various fishing methods used. Also includes footage of cannery operations, fish ladders at Hells Gate, spawning grounds, the cleaning of fish on a processing ship, fishery by-products (such as fish meal used for stock feed), the manufacture of nets and other equipment, fishing boat maintenance, etc. Features fishing boats Pacific Raider and Western Provider.

The item consists of one album of approximately 150 photographs depicting landscapes, architecture, and people in Malta, South Africa (Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope, Table Bay, and Simon’s Bay), Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Victoria), and British Columbia (Hope, Yale, and the Fraser River). Photographs of British Columbia taken by Francis George Claudet.

All photographs have been captioned by the album creator. A paper bookplate has been adhered to the inside front cover depicting a heraldic badge containing the motto “forte scutum salus ducum” ("A Strong Shield is the Salvation of Leaders”, the motto of the Earl Fortescue peerage) with the name “Carlingford” beneath. It is probable that the album was created by or for Hugh Fortescue (16 April 1854-29 October 1932), the 4th Earl Fortescue.

The item is a film print of special event coverage. To commemorate the hundred years since British Columbia joined the confederation of Canada as a province, the ten provinces and two territories each sent a seven-man crew into the B.C. interior for a nineteen-day sojourn over some 817 miles of provincial waters. The purpose was to draw attention to the challenge of Canada's outdoors and canoeing, and at the same time retrace the past routes followed by explorers. Travelling in twenty-five Norwester canoes, the flotilla began its journey from Fort St. James and concluded at Victoria's Inner Harbour.

The file contains photocopies of three letters to Catharine McDonald of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from her brother J.A, McDonald. The letters were sent from Olympia, Washington Territory, Fort Langley and San Francisco, and describe a gold mining expedition up the Fraser River in 1859. The file also contains transcript copies of the letters.

The item consists of a video cassette tape (VHS) copied in 1990 from a 3/4 inch U-Matic video tape created by the National Archives of Canada in 1989.

The item is a reel of documentary film about the B.C. Centennial Committee special project "Fraser Brigade," a re-enactment of Simon Fraser's 1808 journey by canoe down the Fraser River from Fort George. Also shows related celebrations at stops along the route -- Prince George, Quesnel, Soda Creek, Lillooet, Lytton, Yale, Hope, Mission and New Westminster. Includes an Indian horse race at Lytton, a kayak race on the Fraser, and a mountain-climbing demonstration at Hell's Gate. Expedition leader Dick Corless is interviewed.

The item consists of two reels of documentary film; an A-roll and a B-roll. "Produced by the B.C. Wildlife Federation, this film makes a strong statement about the negative aspects of dam construction on B.C. rivers. The Fraser is still dam free. Should it remain so or do we need the hydro electric power that high dams could generate? The film deals specifically with the proposed McGregor Diversion although the fact does not necessarily date the message of the presentation."

The file consists of 21 film reels of unedited footage shot by filmmakers working under an Opportunities For Youth (OFY) grant to document archaeological projects all over British Columbia. These 21 reels record archaeological excavation work during the summer of 1972, in the following areas: F1992:07/010-013: Williams Lake/Riske Creek -- camp scenes, botanical collecting, area scenery, and work at site(s). F1992:07/014-016: Kamloops -- North Kamloops flood scenes, OFY survey team, crew moving camp, OFY camp and activities, excavation site and flooding. More flood scenes, clearing river debris, etc. Labelling and recording artifacts in lab. Kamloops Museum: interview with curator; kids on school tour. F1992:07/017-018: Musqueam -- Salish Park Development, gravehouse, excavation in pit, artifacts, cataloguing, school tour at site, etc. F1992:07/019-022: Libby I -- Travelling to site, area scenery, surveying, digging, camp scenes. The item is an industrial film showing the construction of the Annacis road system and the Alex Fraser Bridge, which was officially opened in 1986.
