Expo 86 Corporation : films and videotapes

The series consists of videotapes, film and audio tapes that form part of the records of the Expo 86 Corporation. Most of this material was either commissioned or acquired by the divisions of Expo 86 Corporation responsible for marketing and communications. It consists of promotional material packaged in several different forms for mass media outlets, and informational material directed to specialized audiences such as corporations and governments. The series also includes media monitoring tapes of news coverage and footage documenting the planning, progress and construction of the exposition. Most of the material dates from March 1983 to the opening days of Expo in early May 1986.

The series consists of film and videos of government documentaries, television advertisements, and other promotional material from the period of 1980 to 1986. The Ministry of Government Services' Government Information Services (GIS) was the centralized government agency for producing audio-video programs for all ministries and JEM Productions was contracted by the GIS to shoot and edit various programs.

This series represents provincial government functions and events representing various regions of British Columbia, including the lower mainland, Peace River and Okanagan regions.

The records consist of 10 videos and 1 film comprising current government initiatives and accomplishments; coal mining and dam developments; BC Place and BC Transit development; a 1986 premier's address; and development of the Coquihalla highway.

Kenneth A. Hodgson fonds

The fonds consists of Kenneth A. Hodgson's amateur films created around 1950, showing B.C. Electric's Fraser Valley passenger and interurban rail service, and the special streetcar used for sightseeing tours in Vancouver. An accompanying videotape made in 1990 includes both these and other films of rail transportation in the Lower Mainland, supplemented with voice-over narration.

Park use permits

The series consists of cancelled park use permits created by the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division, and its predecessor body the Parks Branch, from 1960 to 1981. The files are arranged in park use permit (P.U.P.) number order and contain permits, correspondence, copies of sketch maps and photographs, inspection reports and other material.

The permit files document requests from individuals, companies and other agencies to make specific use of certain sites within the Lower Mainland Provincial Parks. The types of uses include ski cabins, lifts, jumps and schools, plant, seed and insect collecting, use of roads and campsites for logging, mineral claims, film location use and management of park lodges and public utility installations.

Railway belt lot registers

This series contains records from the Department of the Interior particularly General Township Registers for the Coast (also called New Westminster) Division of the Railway Belt. The records are annotated by Forest Branch, ca. 1927, to show forest reserves. Vol. 1 covers W.C.M., E.C.M., and W.7th; vol. 2 covers W.6th. The registers, arranged by legal description, indicate the nature of the grant, the number, date of entry, file number, patent approval date, and name of grantee.

Records regarding the construction of Coquitlam Dam

This series consists of records related to the construction of a new dam at Coquitlam Lake Dam by Vancouver Power Co. Ltd., 1909-1916. Records cover the study and survey of Coquitlam Lake, and attaining approvals for plans, construction, and water use for producing electricity and as a municipal water supply. Records include correspondence, engineering reports and environmental reports.

At the time of construction, Coquitlam Lake was part of the Railway Belt and under the jurisdiction of the dominion government. All records are copies from Canadian Department of the Interior file 656216 nos. 3, 4, 5. The metal pin holding the file together was removed for conservation purposes and the records placed in archival folders. The copied file was likely provided to the Provincial Water Rights Branch for reference around the end of the file in 1913. There are also several loose pages of original records from the BC Comptroller of Water Rights, labelled with file number 8987 dating from 1913 to 1916.

Registers of auction land sales held at Vancouver

This series contains registers of auction land sales held at Vancouver. Volume 1 contains information from an auction sale that took place November 20-23, 1901. Volume 2 contains information from an auction sale that took place September 29, 1908. The registers include information such as lot number, name of purchaser and sale prices.
