Vivian Morcom Bray photo scrapbook

Series is a photo scrapbook with ca. 400 black and white photographs. The photographs are detailed/described by the creator (Vivian Morcom Bray) in his own words and depict persons/places including but not limited to Kamloops, Revelstoke, Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and Osoyoos, circa 1912-1950.

Photos depict life events of this period including the 1948 flood in and around Kamloops.

Royal Commission on the Tree-Fruit Industry of British Columbia

This series contains records relating to the Royal Commission on the Tree-Fruit Industry of British Columbia.

The Royal Commission on the Tree-Fruit Industry of British Columbia was established by Order in Council 3181 on 21 December 1956 pursuant to section 3 of the Public Inquiries Act with Earle Douglas MacPhee appointed as sole commissioner. The Commission was to inquire into the problems of production, packing, storage, processing and marketing of the products of the tree-fruit industry of the Province, and in particular into what constitutes an economic unit of production; the economics of packing, storage, and processing facilities, procedures, and techniques employed in the Province; and the factors involved in the marketing of tree-fruit products.

The Commission established offices in Penticton and conducted public and closed hearings and meetings between January 1957 and August 1958. A three-volume report was submitted in October 1958.

The series consists of hearing and meeting transcripts, exhibits, research surveys, studies and reports, correspondence, administrative files and a final report. Missing are a number of the formally registered exhibits however correspondence and geographically arranged files appear to contain copies of similar briefs or information. Receipts indicate that some exhibits containing business records were returned to submitters.

The wills are arranged by probate number, which can be found by using file list ‘Part II: 1982-2006’ associated with GR-3007. Not all probate records have an accompanying will. In January 1989, the probate numbering sequence was re-set, starting with probate number 0020. As such, some probate numbers within this series have been used twice, but for different years. The records were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 51460-30.

Orders and judgements are interfiled. Records up to December 1987 are arranged by volume and folio number as assigned by the court registry. Initially, folio numbers were assigned to each page of a record. Beginning July 1981, each record was assigned only one folio number. Records from 1990-1992 are arranged chronologically by entered date. The records were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 51400-25.

Orders are the formal expression of the ruling of the court and judgements are the final orders issued in a case. Prior to their merger with the BC Supreme Court in 1990, county courts were the second major level of court and the first level at which civil cases could be heard. They were the first appeal level for cases from Magistrates, Police, or Provincial courts and it was the level at which more serious criminal charges were heard.

Records are arranged by volume and folio number as assigned by the court registry. Initially, folio numbers were assigned to each page of a record. Beginning June 1981, each record was assigned only one folio number. Orders and judgements are interfiled. Kamloops Forest Region forest tenures

This series includes records related to forest tenures in the Kamloops Forest Region from 1987-1998. The series currently includes records from the Kamloops Forest District, Penticton Forest District and Vernon Forest District within the larger Kamloops Forest Region.

Types of forest tenure records in this series include non-replaceable timber sale licences (TSLs), including licences issued under the Small Business Forest Enterprise (SBFEP) program and BC Timber Sales Program.

Records regard the issuance, evaluation, administration, monitoring, planning, replacement, cancellation and extension of forest tenures under the Forest Act.

Records include correspondence; licences; logging plans; log hauling and harvesting contracts; preharvest silviculture prescriptions, reviews and amendments; harvest inspection reports and appraisals; stumpage calculations; records related to right of ways and Forest Service Road permits; reports; maps; and photos.

The series also includes legal documents for cutting permits for replaceable forest licences and tree farm licence (TFL) 35. These files may include some of the records described above, but primarily contain records related to silviculture prescriptions and surveys.

The records have been classified as 19500-45 and 19620-25 in the Forestry Operational Classification System (ORCS).
