The film includes footage of snow survey work on central Vancouver Island; a logging crew clearing trees at the edge of a reservoir; work in progress on the water diversion tunnel at Ash River; transmission tower construction; a crew hanging warning markers on power lines; inspection of power lines via helicopter; and Spillimacheen generating station. Also scenes in Fort St. James and vicinity. The film is set within the framework of a simulated interview show on CHEK-TV. Director of administration Garth Griffith and public information officer Jim Bogyo talk with host Keith Cutler.

News item. Footage shows logged-off areas beyond Sooke (?), logging truck being loaded by hydraulic loader; loaded truck on way to the mill; shots of sawmill (B.C. Forest Products, Sooke?); faller bringing down a tree.

[Elk Falls]

News item. Good aerial shots of the Elk Falls pulp and paper operation, and the hog fuel distribution system at that mill. Hog fuel is used for heat generation. A Crown Zellerbach spokesman (?) says the company will spend $100 million on Vancouver Island, and some of this money may be used to upgrade the Elk Falls mill. Good interior shots of newsprint production.

[Train moves again]

News item. An old CPR engine and passenger car (Victoria Pacific) are being moved from the junction of the Old Island Highway and the Trans-Canada Highway to Ladysmith. Restoration will take place there, possibly for a short run, a CBC television series pilot, or a museum display, or all three. Short but very interesting footage.

[North Island tour]

News item. Some good aerial footage of the Vancouver Island coastline, and ground-level views in and around Port McNeill. The town own is having to give up too much tax money to the provincial government, and consequently is short of money for local development, as it is not yet a municipality.

[Port Hardy airport]

[E&N takeover]

News item. The CPR wants to abandon the E&N railway line because two trestles need extensive repair. Unidentified spokesman says BC government is willing to buy the line if the CPR will return all the free land it received when the line was first put in.

[Coal field development near Quinsam River and Campbell River coal port]

News item. An environmental spokesman expresses his doubts about the proposed coal field development near the Quinsam River, which is being diverted into the Campbell River. Mining could pollute the river completely and stop the salmon run. A regional district spokesman from Campbell River speaks out against both the coal mine and the coal port because it will spoil the neighbouring environment (coal dust) and will generate a lot of traffic, as well as harming the salmon run. A spokesman for Campbell River area residents near the proposed coal port discusses a planned waterfront study to ensure orderly development of the port. He says the B.C. government has been asked to a longer look at the economic feasibility of transporting coal to this site. Still, most area residents want the mine development to proceed if the environmental factors can be resolved.
