A collection of ledgers, journals, day books, and other accounting records produced by various unidentified hotels, businesses, mining companies and other businesses in the Cariboo district.
Consists of three series. Series A: Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Limited papers collected by Buckham; Series B: Buckham's official papers produced in his employment by the Geological Survey of Canada, and the British Columbia Public Service; and Series C: Buckam's private papers. Maps transferred to Map accession M845025. Alexander Fraser Buckham was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 29, 1914. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering from the University of Alberta in 1935 and Master of Science in geology from the same university in the following year. From 1936 to 1939 he worked on a Doctorate in Geology at the University of Wisconsin, however he never completed work on this degree, as he returned to Canada to join the Geological Survey in the summer of 1939. He remained with the Geological Survey for ten years specializing in the coal resources of western Canada. This work resulted in his being offered the position of Chief Geologist with Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Limited (C.C.(D)L.) at Cumberland, B.C. in 1949. He remained with Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Limited until the shut-down of Vancouver Island operations in 1960. He then worked with the Government of British Columbia. In this capacity he advised in the restoration of Barkerville and did geological work in connection with construction of main roads. Mr. Buckham had a keen interest in local history as well as geology. This resulted in his preserving many Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Limited records from destruction and building a historical and geological archives parallel to his career. This series contains records of the Water Recorders and Government Agents of Barkerville and Fort George relating to water licences. Includes correspondence, licence certificates and plans of licences issued to the Canadian Northern Pacific Railway, the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, and the Fort George Citizens Water Company.
Civil case files with the exception of probate/estate files (GR-2020 & GR-2021), Mechanic's liens (GR-2347) and naturalization files (GR-2348) which are filed separately.
The series consists of a microfilmed copy of a plaint and procedure book for the County Court of Cariboo, created between May 1907 and March 1954. The volume includes proceedings from sessions held at Barkerville, Soda Creek, Richfield, 150 Mile House, Quesnel and South Fort George, although the court appears to have settled at Barkerville after 1911.
The series consists of 1 volume of grants of letters probate created in the Supreme and County Courts at Barkerville between 1941 and 1949. Forms typically include name and residence of deceased and the name of the executor(s). Records from County and Supreme Courts are bound in the same volume.

Series consists of Schedule B tax assessment rolls created by Government Agents or other government officials for the Cariboo District. There are rolls for Barkerville for the years 1888, 1890, and 1892 (two pages) and one roll for Quesnelle [Quesnel] for the year 1890. The records include names, occupation, numbers of livestock, lot information, and assessments for real property, wild land, personal property, and income taxes as well as dates of notice, total assessed taxes, and provincial revenue taxes.

The series consists of a Firm declaration book for Cariboo district for the period January 1900 to October 1954. The book has has an index volume for the period after 1918.
This series contains the records of the Gold Commissioner, Government Agent, and Assistant Land Commissioner, Cariboo District (Quesnel). The records consist of lot registers, certificates of purchase, certificates of pre-emption, registers of pre-emptions (canceled and allowed), registers of land applications and lands purchased, register of leaves of absence granted pre-emption on active service, minute books containing lot register of lands along the route of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, and registers of hay and pasture land leases. The series also includes townsite registers for Quesnel, Barkerville, and Wells and lot registers for some townships in the Peace River Block. Volumes 89-98 and 153-158 are oversize.
