James Ellard, an ex-Royal Engineer who entered the dry goods business, died in 1878. Upon his death, Ellard's brother-in-law, James W. Harvey, assumed the managership of the company and with his wife, cared for the Ellard children. This item is a company account book which also contains accounts for the Ellard children.
