This series consists of range management records created by the Quesnel Forest district in the Cariboo Forest Region, and its predecessors, from 1927-2002. This series may contain records created by the Prince George (also known as Fort George), Kamloops, Cariboo and Williams Lake Forest Districts and/or Grazing Districts. Note that the names and boundaries of districts and regions varied over the years. All files were managed by the Quesnel Forest District when the files were closed in or before 2006.

Records relate to the administration of Grazing Licences and Grazing Permits as defined under the Range Act, and Grazing Leases as defined under the Land Act. This includes their issuance, amendment, transfer, billing, monitoring, policy, and administration. This may include records concerning additions and deletions of land and/or authorized Animal Unit Months (AUM) from grazing tenures.

The series also includes individual range unit files which relate to the management of larger range units. These are areas of range land that may be shared by multiple tenure holders. This includes operational records such as range unit plans, inspections covering more than one range tenure, and general information concerning the history of the management of specific range units.

Records in this series include tenure application forms, grazing plans, range use plans, correspondence, maps, photos, surveys, reports, records determining range boundaries and use, and information on range improvements and clearing. Improvements can include infrastructure such as fences, gates and improving access to water sources for livestock.

Each file relates to a particular range tenure. Note that there may be additional individuals or companies who held the tenure over time which are not listed in the file title. Files within each box are arranged alphabetically by file title.

This series is classified under ORCS number 15700-20 and 15720-20 of the Ministry of Forests schedule (881261).

This series consists of cutting permits and other forest tenure records created from 1967-2003 by the Quesnel Forest District, a division of the Cariboo Forest Region. Before 1978 the records were a part of the Cariboo Forest District. Records may also relate to the Williams Lake, Cariboo, and Prince George Forest Districts. All files were managed as part of the Quesnel Forest District when the files were closed and transferred to the archives.

The series includes the following types of timber tenures: forest licences, timber sale licences (TSL), timber sale harvesting licences (TSHL), cash sales, licences to cut, woodlot licences, farm woodlot licences, as well as Tree Farm Licences (TFL) 5 and 52. There is also one silviculture opening file. Some records regard the Big Valley, Bowron, Cottonwood and Narcosli public sustained yield units (PSYU). The majority of files relate to cutting permits. Licensees were required to apply for a forest licence or similar tenure and cutting permits in order to harvest timber. Records regard the issuance, evaluation, administration, monitoring, planning, replacement, cancellation, deletion and extension of these timber tenures.

The records include legal documents, annual reports, development plans, management plans, operations information, correspondence, forms, reports, maps, licences, permits, permit amendments and renewals, logging plans, cruise compilations, compilation summaries, reports, silviculture prescriptions, Stumpage adjustment, timber marks, scale site designation, stumpage invoices, appraisal reports, harvesting reports, inspection forms, road layout or design information, financial records, timber scales, timber mark designations, inspection records, photos, and stumpage fees.

Accession 92-2643 also includes some administrative records related to timber tenures. This includes reports, policies, pulpwood agreements

This series consists of a variety of records related to resource use and recreation management created from 1982-2002 by the Quesnel Forest District, a division of the Cariboo Forest Region. These records relate to the use and management of natural resources in the area, as well as recreation resources in Provincial forests. This includes trails and historical sites with value for tourism or other recreational uses. The records document the location, management, promotion and use of such sites.

The series includes the following types of records:

Local Resource Use Plans (LRUP) for the Barkerville and Blackwater areas. These plans are designed to resolve resource use conflicts in specific areas at the local level.

Resource management inventory files relate to the identification of the present and future opportunities from the Provincial Forest recreation resource, such as heritage trails. This also includes files on archaeological sites.

Resource management planning records relate to the establishment of recreation management objectives for the Provincial Forest recreation resource. Includes general information about types of plans as well as specific information concerning individual plans including: provincial, regional and district recreation plans, rivers and trails plans, cave or karst management plans, and historic (heritage) trail management plans.

Forest Service project site/trail files relate to the routine maintenance, rehabilitation and development of Forest Service recreation sites and trails. Includes records relating to the planning, designation, assessment, design and construction of recreation sites and trails.

Recreation brochures and maps were used to inform the public about forest etiquette, integrated resource management practices and field conditions. Also includes information about recreation signs and posters as well as general tourism information and notable sites in the area.

The series also includes procedures on the following subjects: recreation program implementation referrals; commercial use of crown forests; and resource management inventories.

Types of records vary widely, but can include correspondence, reports, studies, published material, photos, and maps.

The series consists of original wills probated between 1986 and 1998 in the Quesnel Supreme Court registry.

The wills are arranged by probate number, which can be requested from BC Archives staff. Not all probate records have an accompanying will. The records were scheduled for full retention under Court Services ORCS (schedule 100152) 51460-30.

Fonds consists of broad-ranging records pertaining to the management and operations of the Western Plywood Company Limited and the Weldwood-Westply Limited group of regional and national companies, subsidiaries, divisions and branches in Canada and the United States. Records in this fonds are from the British Columbia Head Office of Weldwood-Westply and include material to do with management and operations of various plants, particularly the Kent Avenue plywood plant in Vancouver, where the head office was located, and the Cariboo Plywood plant in Quesnel. The fonds includes records of the following companies, subsidiaries, divisions and branches: Alwest Wholesale, Canadian Collieries Resources Limited, Cariboo Pulp and Plywood (Quesnel), Empire Lumber Company, Hay & Company Limited and Hubbell Lumber Company (both Ontario), Flavelle Cedar Limited, J.R. The series consists of volumes of probate cause books for the Supreme and County Courts of Quesnel. Records are arranged chronologically and show the name of the deceased, the name of the petitioner, and the steps taken to administer the estate, included but not limited to conducting searches of the Central Wills Registry. Container 831222-0001 contains an alphabetical index to the volume in 831222-0002.

This series consists of various administrative and operational records created by the Cariboo Forest District and its predecessors from 1923-1978. The records are arranged by the following categories of subject matter:

General records. This includes a variety of administrative and operational records, including: meeting minutes, meeting agendas, correspondence, annual reports and other reports. Records relate to topics such as: unit organization, research, engineering and recreation projects, Royal Commission on Forest Resources, pesticides, herbicides, resource management, provincial forests, and forest fires.

Grazing and range management records. This includes: grazing district annual reports, range readiness, range improvement, horse control, leasing inquiries, hay permits, and grazing permits.

Timber tenure records. This includes: PSYU (public sustained yield unit) records, engineering and recreation projects, TSLs (timber sale licences, including "X" files and "A" files), TSHL (timber sale harvesting licenses), LC (licences to cut), and Christmas tree permits.

The series consists of one volume of a Quesnel Supreme Court divorce cause book with an alphabetical index enclosed in the front. The records are arranged chronologically.

The series consists of 19 volumes of letters of administration for the Quesnel area. The volumes were created by both the Supreme and County courts of Quesnel between 1915 and 1977. Typical entries include the name of the deceased and the place and date of death, as well as the names of those to whom letters of administration were granted and their relationship to the deceased. Some volumes in accession 83-1199 have a will annexed.

The series consists of one volume of the naturalization register created at the County Court of Quesnel. Records date to between 1914 and 1977. The ledger is arranged alphabetically and entries provide information on the full name of applicant, their occupation, former place of residence, current place of residence, the date notice and papers were filed, the date naturalization certificate was issued, the date it was delivered and to whom it was delivered. Places of residence include Quesnel, Cottonwood, Moose Heights, Wells, Hixon, Barkerville, and Van Winkle. The register also includes a “declaration of intent” list tucked into the front cover.

The series consists of cause books created by the Quesnel Supreme Court between 1915 and 1977. While the records are largely civil in nature, the cause book for the period 1973 to 1977 also includes some criminal charges. The series also consists of indexes arranged alphabetically by surname. Each cause book entry includes the case number, the style of cause, solicitors' names, the nature of the charges, and a list of the proceedings. Cause books are often the first step in Supreme Court research and can often be used to locate court orders.

The series consists of cause books created by the County Court of Quesnel between 1954 and 1977. All volumes include loose indexes in the front of the ledgers. One volume also includes criminal court cause books.

The series consists of one volume of the Supreme Court criminal case calendar. The records typically provide the name of the prisoner(s), the court date, name of the judge, plea, verdict, sentence and date of verdict and sentencing.

The series consists of volumes of grants of letters probate created in the Supreme and County Courts at Quesnel between 1932 and 1973. Forms typically include name and residence of deceased and the name of the executor(s). Records from County and Supreme Courts are often bound in the same volume.

Records in this series are arranged chronologically.

This series contains the records of the Gold Commissioner, Government Agent, and Assistant Land Commissioner, Cariboo District (Quesnel). The records consist of lot registers, certificates of purchase, certificates of pre-emption, registers of pre-emptions (canceled and allowed), registers of land applications and lands purchased, register of leaves of absence granted pre-emption on active service, minute books containing lot register of lands along the route of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, and registers of hay and pasture land leases. The series also includes townsite registers for Quesnel, Barkerville, and Wells and lot registers for some townships in the Peace River Block. Volumes 89-98 and 153-158 are oversize.

The series consists of indexes to partnerships registered in the County Court of Quesnel. The ledgers are arranged alphabetically and cover both firms and individuals. The whereabouts of the records to which the indexes refer is unknown. Typical entries in the firm index include the style of firm, names of persons composing the firm, and the date of declaration. Entries in the individual index consist of the name of individual, the style of firm of which a member, and the date of declaration.

Criminal assize calendars for Victoria. Also includes criminal assize calendars for Yale, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Clinton, Richfield, Kamloops, Quesnellemouth, Cassiar, Laketon, Glenora and Lytton, 1870s.

The series consists of Mechanics' Liens and Woodmen's Liens from 1913-1915, 1920-1921, 1923-1926, 1931, 1933-1935, 1938, 1940-1953, 1942, 1945, 1953-1956. The register covering 1940-1953 includes an index.

The series consists of plaint and procedure books, some of which also have indexes. The volume in accession 75-G-021 includes a list of court documents and costs for the Supreme and County courts inside the front cover. The volume in container 830898-0003 includes the County Court judge's Criminal Court plaint book. This volume also includes a short list of mechanic's liens in the back of the volume.

This series consists of five volumes of Magistrate's record books from the Quesnel Provincial Court. Volumes are an account book, 30 Jun 1864 - 26 Sep 1865; charge book 24 Aug 1896 - 30 Jul 1902; charge book and notebook, 03 Sep 1918 - 09 Jul 1920; notebook, 30 Dec 1947 - 12 Apr 1950; and notebook, 18 Jun 1950 - 10 Oct 1950.

The series consists of Quesnel Police Court record books created between October 1925 and October 1950.
