Forest map of proposed national park and Douglas Provincial Forest

Item consists of one map folded and housed within a black folder measuring 49.5 x 35.5 cm. The map was created by the Forest Surveys Division, B.C. Forest Service in 1931. A paper label adhered to the outside of the folder states: "Maps to accompany report of Committee of Investigation on Garibaldi Park area. (1.) Coloured topographic map. 1 in = 1 mile; (2). B.C. Forest Surveys map, 1 in = 2 miles." Next to the topographic map title an annotation in pencil, possibly made by archival staff, states: "not here 14/1/75". This coincides with there being only one map in the folder. On the back of the map, a typed paper label states: "Forest map of proposed national park and Douglas Provincial Forest, scale 1 inch = 2 miles, Forest Surveys Division, B.C. Forest Service, April 1931". Also on the back, "Proposed Garibaldi Park extension" and "boundaries of park area as suggested by Committee of Investigation Garibaldi Park area are shown in red lines, November 1932" are written in pencil, by two different hands. On the map front, the title also notes the New Westminster District and re-states the annotation from the back about the red boundary lines.

A legend provides definitions of colour and symbol codes that distinguish areas of merchantable timber, immature timber, reproduction after fire, destroyed by fire, logged (clear cut), logged and burned, grazing land, cultivated land, suitable for cultivation, unproductive land, and swamps. Timber license numbers, range numbers, meridians, railway lines, bodies of water, mountains, and named forests are also noted on the map.
