Cariboo gold rush records

File consists of textual records including licenses to sell liquor, free miners certificates, receipts for goods purchased, telegraph messages, Royal Engineers discharge papers, a will, correspondence, a list of persons entitled to vote in electoral district of Cariboo, and other records created between 1863 and 1885. They are generally related to the Cariboo region, especially Richfield, Barkerville, Quesnel, William Creek, and Yale.

Essays and accounts

The series consists of microfilmed transcripts of short essays on various subjects, including the transport and mining industries in B.C., the history of B.C., descriptions of Victoria and other B.C. cities by Cariboo grocer Leonard A. Coton. Also includes accounts of car trips taken by L.A. Coton to the Okanagan, the Cariboo and on Vancouver Island in the 1950s.

John Waddell diary

The diary documents the journey of miner John Waddell (1818-1870) to Vancouver Island in 1862 in search of gold during the Cariboo Gold Rush. Also included are notes on his journey to San Francisco in early 1862 aboard the California steamer Northern Light. The diary also describes his dealings with George A. Walkem, third Premier of British Columbia.

The transcript, completed by the donor in May 2017, includes and introduction and notes relevant to the diary's content.

The item is a testimonial presented to James Wattie of Camerontown, a miner and woolen mill owner, on his leaving the Cariboo to return to Canada.

The file consists of an unidentified ledger from a business in Quesnel that covers the period 1867. It is indexed and gives details of various account including wages, freight and cash. Preprinted forms in the back of the book indicate that the business received goods from the goods steamers Enterprise and Victoria.

The file consists of an account book kept between 1875 and 1876 by James Reid, a Quesnel merchant. The book is arranged by daily accounts and includes the names of individuals and businesses, their account numbers and amounts charged or paid.

The file consists of a ledger account book for the Cornish Co. in Richfield. A name plate for E.L. Kepner is on the inside front cover. The ledger includes various account information for the period 1870 to 1897.
