When taking this view (alone) two eagles came to attack me but I managed to drive them off. The Great Chasm 147 miles above Yale. It is four and a half miles long by nine hundred feet deep and a thousand feet in width, supposed to have been caused by an earthquake. It's [sic] grand and solemn silence is very impressive.
